Another thing Andy did to prepare for winter was to put a transparent screen in front of the East intake vent. The vent opens (bringing cooler air in) and the West fan turns on (blowing warm air out) when their joint thermostat reaches a set temperature. If the air outside is frigid we don’t want the cold air to hurt the plants, so the screen protects them.

Andy is one “smart cookie” for sure…his ideas to make things work is so amazing…and then actually make the item required. I guess the hardware store really loves to see him come through the door…
I imagine so. 😀
That has got to be one of the most modern greenhouses ever.
It’s an expensive toy, but just think of all the money we’ll save on radishes.
LOL on readishes…and yep, I’m not fond of radishes with any spelling…
I think it would feel wonderful to just sit in there and feel the sun on my skin….
It is definitely warm in there. 🙂
agree with all comments! I think you’re BOTH remarkable!
but one question. will little critters be able to come through those open spaces? or am I not seeing a fine screen that’s there. I don’t trust my eyesight anymore sometimes!
Great question! Yes, there are no screens yet, but we are aware of the problem and screens are on the list.
Well that was a smart idea.
Yes. 🙂
Got to grow a few flowers in that greenhouse too. You can’t live on radishes. LOL
No flowers in the greenhouse, I’m afraid, just in the house or ones like daffodils that can survive outside without protection. We had a 25′ X 75′ cold frame/walled garden with a glass roof in the past and grew beets, carrots, peas, corn, etc. But no flowers.
That’s a clever idea
Yes. 🙂
