They arrived in town last night and we all came up to the land today.
We had to inspect the greenhouse, of course.
The beets
and radishes
look happy, and the corn seems to be hanging in there,
but the lettuce still looks unhappy,
and the tomatoes are hard to see.
We’ve had a couple of very dark, and two overcast, days and it got down to about 16 last night, so we’re surprised it hasn’t got down to freezing inside yet. The sun came out for a bit today, and it got to 70 inside even though the sun didn’t melt the snow of the roof.
It’s supposed to be clear and cold tonight, so it will be a good test of our heat-storing wall.
December 29, 2019
What does it feel like when the wind howls, hunting for any crack to sneak through? I will be waiting to see how it does tonight.
No wind today, but it was down to 7 degrees when we left at 6 pm, so it doesn’t look good. (Andy and I came home, Kaitlin, Torben and the pups are staying up there until Thursday morning.)
We will let you know how bad it is tomorrow. 😀
PS Andy just said thank you for asking, it’s very good question. He’s working on it. He thinks he can reduce the heat loss by about 50%, but we need the vents to keep the greenhouse from getting overheated when the sun comes out. So reducing the infiltration by 50% may be hard. (The greenhouse itself is tight, it’s just the intake and exhaust vents that leak air.)
Glad to hear they arrived safely. I see even the dogs needed to check out what was going on inside the greenhouse.
Yes, I love the picture of Zoe standing on her hind legs and peeking in.
I feel like Zoe!
I enlarged the photos and taken off my glasses so that I can get a real good look!
Very cool!
(So happy they made it safely there!)
Just think, if you had a hot tub in there you could have a skinny dipping New Year’s Eve!
