When we built the greenhouse we installed 12 ducts — six near the top of the wall, six near the bottom, to connect the air in the greenhouse to the small gap between the back of the heat-storing wall and the back wall of the structure. The idea was to warm the back of the heat-storing wall with warm air from the greenhouse.
Andy has now installed fans on shelves to blow air from the top of the greenhouse into the gap.
The system does seem to be putting some heat into the back of the heat-storing wall, and Andy is now working on electronics so he can more easily measure how much difference it’s making.

he loves a challenge! ๐
Yes, and this is a nice one — no danger at all.
I think Andy must be a man of many talents…much like Roger used to be. Just with different things.
I’m so sorry about Roger’s stroke (correct me if I’m wrong.) Andy is vulnerable there — he’s had a few TIAs, and strokes run in his family. His father died from one when he was 82.
goes to show, if you have an interesting life before you retire, be it a career or a tinkerer in the backyard shed – you mind is going to outlast everything else. And importantly you need to ask the right questions; find a sales clerk with the forethought; the network that will help when you need it….etc.
I’ve only just found my tinkering spirit – this year is all about making things – either because I can or maybe to show. My network isn’t a real person, more a machine that helps me find the right store for whatever need… (I need to factor in a trip to an art supply store on the Shore, I could order online but I need some real face2face help)
But I also need to be mindful of keeping fit and life in balance. So I’ve challenged myself to something that hasn’t been done for well over a decade, I can’t say I’m enjoying it – and now I’m in tweaking mode…but it does help schedule my day better.
So the thing you’ve been doing again is part of being fit? That’s so important as we get older. I’m spending more time exercising now than I was a few years ago, and it’s well worth it.
That’s going to be one tricked out greenhouse!
Yes! Thatโs why it so so much fun.
Andy sure does keep himself busy with these things. Good that he has the skills and knowledge to be able to do it himself.
I agree. His projects are good for him. ๐
