How Strange Is That?

OK, so I restored my site from my daily backup, which was made just before I upgraded WordPress. My blog now displays new comments, but not old ones. For previous posts it just displays the number of comments made, but not the comments themselves. I can live with that.

I entered by hand the comments made yesterday before the mess happened, and hopefully things are back to normal for new posts. Fingers crossed.

  1. and another “challenge” has arrived for the Mistress who loves a challenge…

I’ve been trying to get caught up on some non-computer things but I don’t fuss when things like this happen. I’m just glad the restore worked as well as it did. I was prepared to have to deal with a bigger mess, so no complaints.

I remember problems with the Peanut. it got to the point where I wished I had blogger or anything but WP! and then … parts gone… comments… then pictures. I know I could have should have been more tech savvy. but that’s not me. now I have the pleasant memory of once having the Peanut.
    good luck. 🙂 xo

Which WordPress were you using, WordPress.org or WordPress.com? This site is self-hosted so I use WordPress.org. I also have a site at WordPress.com but I never use it because it doesn’t give me the flexibility I want.

Interesting. I guess Blogger isn’t the only one who has glitches.

We all have computer glitches from time to time. It’s the nature of older people working with computers—younger people don’t even blink when their computers act up! But I do admire the way you rise to the occasion, Monk, and attack the problem full on! I’m not that brave, but I’m getting better at detective work, and solving a problem once in a while. The rest of the time, I give up and call my tecchie.

  5. Whenever anyone rolls out something new there are glitches. I’ll bet your old comments will eventually come back.

    • Jean says:

I still have them, they just don’t display. It doesn’t matter because I’m sure no one else would want to read old comments.

We are dealing with Blogger’s new format here…some things I like better, some I don’t at all. But I will learn to live with it. It is free, so thankful for that.

It seems like no matter what platform we all use for blogging there’s always something to go wrong. So happy that you had your restore backup and that you could use it I should make a current backup I think the other one is maybe two years old

    • Jean says:

A couple of years ago I decided to pay $5 a month to Sucuri.net for daily backups. It’s worth it to me because when I was doing my own I had to figure out where to store them, in addition to the hassle of the backing up itself. I’m glad they were there for me.

  8. Oh sigh….

I do not like Word Press. ~grin~ Commenting is so hard, unless bloggers did what you did. —> Our info. stays after we put it in, once.

And I had stopped even trying to follow WP, because they would not let me, a Blogger user, comment. With out making my own WP, and why would I want to do that?

    Anyway, good luck!!!!!!!!!!

ROFL on the comic. I needed to laugh

Many years back there was a trend to change your blog format, but so many people ran into technical difficulties that I decided to keep my format just the way it was. “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” has always been my motto!
