Life Is Too Complicated. It Can’t Be Done.

Life Is Too Complicated. It Can’t Be Done.

I say that a lot nowadays, and this morning we proved it. I’ve been getting to bed late and sleeping in, and Andy says goodbye when he leaves. But this morning when he came in, he said, “Jean, I hate to bother you, but I can’t find the Garmin.” (The Garmin is our satellite tracker so I know where Andy is when he goes to the mountains, and it has an SOS button to call for emergency services if he gets into serious trouble.)

So I got up and looked on my desk in the study where we always update and recharge it every night, but it wasn’t there. Andy remembered bringing it in and I remembered unplugging it and resetting it, but it wasn’t on the dining room table where I always put it when I’m done. Sometimes I get distracted and put it down somewhere on the way, but we looked around and it wasn’t to be seen. It’s a big enough device that it would be obvious if it were there…it didn’t make sense. So Andy went out to the Jeep and sure enough, there it was. We had remembered bringing it in, updating it, etc., it’s just that those memories were not from last night.

Anyway, we checked to be sure it was still tracking and Andy left for the land and I went back to bed to finish sleeping. Just another of the little adventures we have nowadays.

  1. ummmmmmmmmmm….definitely one of those moments.

and I had one today as well…I had wandered away from home, on my ‘hood walk and had reached the newest building site (old house gone, many new houses will eventuate) AND that is when i realised I didn’t have my specs on…yes I can see okay without them, but not good for distance or looking at small things at my feet. And the rubble put down had been driven over so ruts galore. I didn’t truly want to go back home, so continued on, knowing I wouldn’t get into too much trouble!

Except up on the top road – road works, cones and traffic stop/go signs and I was advised by one of the people with her RT to cross over to her…then of course when I got up the other end, cross over with another RT holder. The only good thing was they both stopped the traffic for me to cross…

Of course, neither knew I didn’t have my specs on!

(I don’t wear them at home much – unless I want to look to see something down in the valley or across the way…AND I always try to have them on when I leave home) πŸ™‚

That sounds like something I would do. I will be sure I did something but find out later it wasn’t at the time I thought I did it. Thankfully that was still charged enough for Andy to use it.

The device is supposed to be for long trips, so the battery doesn’t have to be recharged every day. It’s easy to do it regularly so we don’t have to think about it.

    LOL!
not laughing at you. laughing at LIFE!
actually it’s like living in our very own sit com half the time. πŸ˜€ xoxo

  4. Myra Guca says:

Yep, I can relate! Lately it’s been, “I can’t find my hearing aid.” (When Tom pulled off his mask it fell out onto the driveway.)
Thank goodness you and Andy have one another. Dream team, no? (*smile*)

I have not heard of one of these garmin’s and what a great device to have especially with him going up on top of the mountain and being able to keep in touch with you with that satellite tracker. I assume that it works better than a cell phone wood because of cell phone coverage. I read all the comments and after reading your story and a lot of the comment it seems like all of us are in the same boat in the memory Department. I can’t tell you how many times I look for my coffee cup and I find it in the strangest places. Enjoyed reading about your memory fun

    • Jean says:

He uses it to tell me when he’s leaving, but he also uses the internet we have up there. I can text him on his cell phone, and he almost always gets my messages but often can’t reply because of the poor reception. But we have the internet installed so I can have him check his email and he can write to me. When he leaves for home he sends an email as well as a preset message on the Garmin.

    I’ve done something similar too.
Last time I was at work.
They asked me if I remembered something about a certain situation and I said β€œ…. yes, I remember… but I’m not sure if I’m remembering the latest incident or what happened before that.”
I find sometimes I have to think really hard on something and then suddenly I comes back to me in a visual memory . I have to visualize it all over, step by step and suddenly it’s back.
    But not always. πŸ™

Sounds like you need another tracker to locate your satellite tracker!

I often search for things in the most unlikely places, only to find they’re in the most obvious place all along.

  8. Ohhhhhhhh… So familiar….. ~sigh~

Wonder when the exact moment is, that older folks, begin to stop remembering, properly…? It has to be individual but… It certainly happens sometime.

Would be helpful, if a bell went off, or something. Then we would know, that from then on, we had to be extra careful… Always put things, in their place. And all the things, we need to do, to circumvent the loss of certain bits of memory.

Really like that gizmo, and happy you have one!!!!!

    ?????

I was actually a lot more absent-minded when I was younger… I’m much more organized now and things work a lot better. And having both of us helps a lot!

  9. Bruce Taylor says:

I’m surprised you could get back to sleep after that. But a clean conscience helps, I assume.

  10. Rose says:

You remembering doing it, only not knowing you were remembering another night is sort of like me. I will want to tell the girls something, sometimes just one of them or sometimes both. And I keep telling myself to remember, by the time I see them, I have to say, I may have already told you this, but can’t remember if I did or if I am just remembering I want to tell you!

I am at least glad you found it!

  11. Linda Sand says:

Oh, I so relate to this one! I rarely know when what happened. πŸ™‚

I got halfway to the doctor recently before realizing had not put in my hearing aids. Fortunately, I can hear without them, just not as well.
