As I’ve said before, I’m glad there aren’t any bears in our neighbourhood. That 17-year-old girl is either very brave or very foolish! Amazing that she managed to intimidate the bear into retreating.
I don’t think she was thinking at all. I think it was Pure adrenaline kicking in!
she just wanted to save her dogs!
she was really as maternal as the bear in a way. the mama bear was fighting off the barking dogs to save her cubs.
and look how Fast the baby cubs raced to that tree! they knew they’d better escape!
I wonder what the girl thinks now that it’s over. I’m surprised one of the morning shows haven’t contacted her about an interview already!
I was astounded when I saw that on the news last night. I love my dogs and would do just about anything to protect them, but this one might give me pause:)
I have actually been seeing this on the news. The girl said she didn’t stop and think, it was just instinct. She is very lucky. I think what saved her was that the bear was on that ledge, else she would likely be dead.
Yes, if the bear had gotten into the yard it would have been a completely different situation. I figured some people had already seen the video, but it was worth posting anyway.
Some type of pure instinct on the girls part – I should imagine now she is “wondering” a lot – as will be her parents …
I’m so glad we don’t have bears wandering loose here!

Andy thinks she was crazy, but it worked.
Wow! God, she is one lucky girl and so are the dogs.
Yes, it could have gone so wrong.
I watched that this morning on the news. That girl was either brave or stupid!!
She was taking a big chance and was lucky.
It sounds like I might be glad it wouldn’t play for me. 🙂
Did you click it a couple of times and wait? It’s slower than most videos.

It was a dangerous situation and she and the dogs were lucky to be unscathed. Thank goodness!
Wow, I don’t think I could have done what that girl did. That is scary
I wouldn’t do it. I would try to call the dogs into the house, but there’s a good chance it wouldn’t have worked.

It would be sensible not to do it.
Maternal instinct trump’s all. Not rational, but pretty sure I’d have done the same thing.
Fingers crossed you don’t have to worry about bears. 🙂

Good thing no one was in the neighbors yard!
Yes, that bear is dangerous!
we saw it on the news yesterday. that girl was just not thinking. scary it is the bear and the girl were protecting their baby’s
Sheer adrenaline in action.
Andy is correct. She was crazy but lucky. Fear for her dogs safety apparently made her temporarily “out of her head”.
Yes. I’m glad she was lucky.

We have bears around here, but they’re mostly not that aggressive. If they start to be they get relocated for everyone’s sake.
