The Days Dwindle Down to a Precious Few

For some reason those words popped into my mind this morning. Probably because for the last couple of years Andy has been saying he thinks he’ll still be able to go up to the land to work on his projects until he’s 89…he’s now 87 so that time is getting closer and there are no guarantees.

We don’t worry about it… it keeps things in perspective and we focus on the things that are important to us. It reminds me of the Samuel Johnson quote,

Depend upon it, sir, when a man knows he is to be hanged in a fortnight, it concentrates his mind wonderfully.

Yep,

The quality of our lives depends on how we focus our energy and our attention.

Andy and I are doing just fine.

Well, he is just guessing he may stop at 89. But who really knows, he may go on quite awhile longer if he stays in good health! I am very glad we do not know the future, I consider it to be a blessing. We have enough to deal with in the present.

  2. I too know you’ve both doing what is best for yourselves – and so too am I. I remember years ago I took a “test” I’m already past that forecast “use by date” 🙂

I say…live today, for there is no tomorrow!!

Hope your sore arms/wiped out feelings have subsided from the 2nd boosters!!

Great quotes. From all you’ve told that Andy does I expect he’ll be able to continue on past his target age of 89.

    Yes, you two do wonderful…

tell him, we had a friend that at 91 was still cutting his own grass and driving and doing almost everything he ever did before. the trick is to keep doing what you are doing and don’t stop, once you stop that is it.. Roy is Bob’s hero. He is dead now, he died at 98 and that was 15 years ago.. he loved to dance, and his wife loved it too. they danced until almost the year he died.
we went to his 91st birthday party and they did like a wedding dance. it was hilarious. half way through the song, he stopped and sat in a chair. In about 2 minutes he got up and said, I am ready to finish it and they did it again.
we used to laugh because he told tales of cutting his lawn. Sometimes he pushed it around 2 or 3 times before he sat in the rocker on the porch to rest. sometimes it was 1 time andsometimes 6 times. you are both doing great

  7. The two of you are such an inspiration!
… and thanks for the ear-worm. I love that song.

I wish they called it something else besides ear worms. I love the songs that go through my head but don’t like worms that much. 🙂

Hmm, second booster shots…and then “for no reason” you thought of dwindling days.
Or were you thinking of the fire in Friday Harbor this weekend that burned down 6 businesses? Local catastrophe, demolition of ruins well underway.

Anyhow, glad you reasserted your basic stance toward life. I count on it!

    • Jean says:

It was probably more his boots and backpack wearing out, but they were easily replaced. 🙂

I hadn’t heard about the fire and just watched a video about it, That’s so sad. 🙁 How are you two doing?

  9. Linda Sand says:

My dad lived to be 94 and he and my stepmother still lived in their house independently. He and Andy share their body type and activity levels so Andy has a ways to go yet.

    • Jean says:

That’s great. Independent living is what we’re trying for. Driving the hour up to the land each way, half on dirt roads is a concern. We’re just happy the eye doctors are maintaining his eyes.

  10. Keep it up! You two are doing great.
