Andy took these pictures of our conifers yesterday:
We’ll have to see how many survive.
I’m pleased to see that a lot of the old logs lying on the ground were burned…less fuel for the next fire. Also notice the new plants starting to spring up in spite of the drought. Unfortunately that means more work trimming them down for the defensible space. We take preserving that space seriously!
Here are more pictures Andy took yesterday. About half of them are of Beate and Tim’s place.
Take care, everyone!

Awww, how sad. Looks like they are all gone.
We’ll see. Andy plans to replant.
oh is Beate and Tim’s cabin okay – not sure when I see scorched wooden fittings on the windows and doors…
It’s fine so far. Tomorrow’s post will show how the firefighters are trying to protect it from this next windy spell.
I appreciate you sharing updates!!
Thanks!
All the work to preserve the space has paid off. Is it out of danger now?
I think we’re safe for this fire. The fire did burn a lot of fallen trees, so it reduced the fuel load.
that little blue tiny house is adorable and I am happy to see there is not a lot of damage, the little new green on your land will be easier to remove than when it grows up. the photos are beautiful and also sad to see. glad you are sharing them, I like to see what it looks like. I love looking at houses and property
It doesn’t look sad to me. I was itching to have a bonfire to get rid of some piles of dead logs created when we did the defensible space, but we didn’t get enough snow in the winters to burn them. This fire did it for us. Yes, the land around the clearing does look somewhat barren, but that’s the new reality and I’ve grown to love it.
Thank you for sharing! What a story the pictures tell. I’m struck by the contrast between devastation and new spring growth.
Those standing dead trees aren’t from this fire, they’re from the 2011 fire. This fire burned a lot of dead wood.
It sure is worth trying to keep the space clear. I appreciate the photos…
Yes, it’s more barren than we would ideally have, but it’s worth it for defensible space.
Sad to see all the devastation.
I’m glad the fire burned those stacks of logs. It was too dry even in winter for us to do it.
I don’t recall ever really seeing Tim and Beate’s place.
thank you for sharing all of this through such a harrowing time in your lives!
I Love tiny houses! and it looks like they have one. I’m glad it’s safe.
the camaraderie of ALL of you in the mountain there is wonderful. XO
Yes, the camaraderie is wonderful. 🙂
