Andy’s Christmas Present

So what did I use my Speedball carver for?

For Andy’s Christmas present. When our local supermarket has Russell Stover’s Assorted Creams we buy them. Andy likes about half of the ones in the box and the boxes we had been buying have a guide, so he can tell the “good” ones from the “bad” ones. When Andy was young the best part of Christmas was that he could eat all the candy he wanted that day, so that was one of the main traditions for him and Kaitlin when she was young.

Anyway, this year I decided to buy him some extras and our store had run out, so I went to the Russell Stover site and ordered more. I decided to get him the pound boxes instead of the 9.4 oz ones we have been buying. I was excited about it, but when we opened the first one there was no guide! How could he tell the good ones from the bad ones? So I made my own guide. I took a picture of the box with all the candies in them.

Then I used the Speedball to make little holes in the bottom of all the candies in one box, so I wouldn’t mess up the candies themselves. I took out the ones he didn’t like and used Procreate to mark the “bad” ones on the picture so I can take them out for him in the new boxes.

We’re starting to open them already because he only has two a day and six boxes should last him a long time. If that’s not a good present I don’t know what is.

That was a genius idea. There’s nothing worse than biting in to a piece of candy and it’s a flavor that you don’t like.

agree with both Anns, clever and creative and sheer genius. you would not need the drill for me because I never met a candy I would not eat. Yes, some of them I was not overly fond of but chocolate on anything will do me… 6 years of no candy and I still miss it… 2 a day is how bob eats candy, I would finish the box in a couple of days

  3. Such will power he has! That was clever, customizing a box like that for Andy.

Glad you found a way to separate the good chocs from the unwanted ones. The only chocs I don’t like are the ones with toffee or hard centres. Lindt chocolate truffles are my favourite.

  5. How clever! Now I’m wondering if Kaitlin still observes the “all your want” Christmas Day tradition. That’s so cute!

How ingenius!!! You are so creative. I need to look this tool up, I may need to buy one!

  7. That was a great idea. I too will only eat maybe two pieces a day of my See’s candy balls. Enjoy!

  8. maybe you could find a company that makes customised chocolates – and you could then overcome the ones “not liked” – maybe work on that project this year and let us know this time next, how that worked out…here they would be known as bespoke chocolates. And there’s a store in the Queens Arcade where you can buy them individually… maybe they export 🙂

LOL, I was right on the carving tool, yay
