Never a Dull Moment

All sorts of little problems popped up Saturday. First my GraphicConverter wouldn’t let me save photos for the web so I removed it, downloaded a new dmg file, and reinstalled it. Still no luck so I contacted the creator. He’s great and answers right away, so he told me what to try and it worked. Then I had trouble right clicking with my mouse…no problem I figured, just open it up and clean it. That has worked before on other mice, but the insides fell out of this one. There was one small spring we didn’t know where to put, so I trashed it, got out the mouse for my laptop and used that. I ordered a new one from Amazon for only $7.49 including tax, so no complaints there. Then we wrote our Christmas letter, including some pictures I took the first day we got back to our land after the fire. That part went well and we felt good about it. The printer ran out of ink as we printed two copies, but it was easy enough to fix that. So all in all it was a great day until….

Around 11:30 PM the internet went out and stayed out. I figured I would deal with that in the morning. I’ll skip the details but the landline and cell phone were also out, and they stayed out for over 24 hours. Everything is back to normal now except Andy took his walk this morning instead of in the afternoon because of the threatening weather, and he came home extra early to avoid the worst of the snowstorm. The universe is determined to keep us out of ruts!

  1. yes the universe has a lot to answer for!

Not many problems here, other than last night it was so hot and sticky. I looked at the weather app around 11pm and it was still 18c! It seems a bit better tonight, but I did give the flat a extra incentive – when I got home around 4.30pm I put on the aircon…

a postive person would say, at least the rotten stuff makes the good stuff look great, or something like if no dark skies how would we know blue skies were dark. as a total realist… that doesn’t believe what I wrote above, I say
Just settle back and sigh and say this too shall pass. and it did because hear your are posting about it..
living that long with no cell, home phone, internet might just push me over the edge, as long as my kindle had enough books in it to keep me reading.

I was getting psyched up for it to last a couple of days. That may very well happen sometime so I have some contingency plans. 🙂

That last line you shared is perfect.
Hope the storm isn’t too bad.

Is there a way you can copy your Christmas letter and share it here? Or is it perhaps too personal?

My family always used to say that bad things come in threes. Now maybe you will be fine the rest of the year. I am interested in this converter. When I want to save a pic from the web, I either right click on it or use the snipping tool. So how and why is this needed?

    • Jean says:

Graphic Converter is a program for Macs. It’s similar to Photoshop Elements and I started using it when Photoshop went to subscriptions. I use both Graphic Converter and PS Elements, depending on which is easiest for what I want to do. I can change the brightness, do simple photo editing and, the thing I use the most, is change the size of the photo for the web.

  5. No internet is annoying for sure — but no phone service is downright frightening. It’s always something!

Sometimes when it rains it pours. It always seems to go that way when one thing happens, it’s followed by another and another. At least in this case they were easily taken care of.

  7. Mice can cause a lot of trouble with wiring of any kind. Winter is not a fun time to be without power or internet.
