The most exciting part, of course, was the wildfire. We were barred from the land for about 3 1/2 weeks and for a while had our bags packed for evacuating from down here.
The fire fighters were still using our clearing as a lookout post when we were allowed back up, and it was fun to watch the helicopters fighting the remaining spot fires.

December 31, 2022
Not long now here in New Zealand before the fireworks kick off for the new year – around 3hours and we shall be there 🙂
And yes my year has been “quite a year” as well…
Yes, yours has!
Couldn’t watch the video. When I clicked on it, it brought up the window to save it to my computer. Scary time but interesting to be able to watch them at work.
Sorry about the video. It was scary, but we would have had plenty of warning to evacuate. And all the work on the defensible space up on the land meant the house would probably survive.
This still gives me chills, imagining the ‘what if’s.’ Thank goodness for the dedicated firefighters!
Yes! We were grateful.
Both exciting and sad. SO glad, though, that you both got through it and are well.
Thanks. 🙂
It was a year here with reasons to remember and more to forget. Welcome arms for 2023.
Happy New Year!!!

I hope your 2023 goes a lot better. I’ve been concerned for you even though I don’t know the details. Fingers crossed!
