Kindness

It may not be the only thing that matters, but I love it when it happens. So many companies are having trouble doing business as usual that I think being patient and kind is a chance to make this poor old world a little bit friendlier.

I had a chance to experience it yesterday morning. I received an email from a company I order from that my order had shipped and would be here Thursday. Sure enough $74+ had been charged to my card. Say what? I hadn’t ordered anything for a couple of months. I figured their computer system had problems so I phoned to tell them. It turns out the order was made last November and they just now have the items. They hadn’t charged me twice, and the gal I talked to helped straighten it out. She was friendly and I thanked her for her patience more than once. It was a warm human interaction and it touched my heart and made my day.

  1. my goodness – that’s been a long wait – let’s hope it’s worth it…

Wow, that’s a long time. I would have thought that if it went that long with them not having the item in stock they would have just cancelled the order.

…and yet they didn’t advise you WHEN to expect it…the delay time?
The positive on this is to actually have a human response to talk and assist!! No phone menu.

I had to make a call to our HMO customer service yesterday, seeking info I could not find on the web site. We have been in this BC plan for 7 years, we like it and just stay with it. They made a lot of changes this year, most of which we were fine with. in the past the phone was answered by english speaking people who were one hour away from us and yesterday I heard clicking clacking and a woman came on and I am pretty sure she said her name was Scrub… very hard to understand. the thing is, she got me the info I needed, and we both giggled and laughed at the commuciation gap, I did not get upset, she did not get upset the 4th time I asked her to repeat the words zip code. I thought she was asking me for a CODE… it ended well with kindness from both sides and I did get what I needed. that is part of what you said above, times have changed and people all over the world need these jobs. i will try to remember to be KIND no matter what

It takes so little to send kindness out into the world. It has a ripple effect just like meanness but is so needed.

  7. Patience really is a wonderful thing to have as well as being kind. Glad the girl straightened things out well. That’s the best. Cheers, Ivy.

Glad to hear it went so well. People who work in customer service really have it tough. All they get is complaints and sometimes nastiness all day long. A friend of ours worked in customer service, and she sadly finally snapped. She was fired on the spot and had to get a job as a maid.

  9. What a pleasant surprise … that lady deserves a raise!

A little kindness really does go a long way:)
