We Have to Watch Those Gusts

Andy lost his hat last week. A gust of wind blew it off and down the steep hill to the east of the house. He went partway down to look, but couldn’t see it.

No problem, I ordered another one from Amazon that evening and it’s come already.

It reminded me of a couple of years ago when a gust of wind blew my hat off. It didn’t go that far, but Tempi was there and ready to play. She grabbed it and ran to the other side of the house. I went after her and was relieved to see she hadn’t hurt it, so I coaxed, “Drop it, Tempi. Drop it.” She did, then put a paw on the brim, grabbed the top with her mouth and yanked up.

My hats are harder to find than Andy’s are, so I learned not to wear good hats around Tempi.

  1. I used to love a hat – but now since (well I think since a med use) I can’t stand even a thermal beanie on my head! Every now and then I look at hats, someone suggested I needed a rain hat, but then I know I won’t wear it…

I was never big on wearing hats but I can see the need for them. Does that new one for Andy have a chin strap on it?
Too funny about Tempi and your hat. Although I suppose your hat was not amused 🙂

  3. MadSnapper says:

i wondered the same about the new Andy Hat, chin strap? Tempi is such a LOVE and that is a good thing ha ha that way you can ignore the hat destroyer. Maybe Andy’s old one will show up and you can borrow his. ha ha

  4. Myra Guca says:

I’m sorry for giggling, but can just visualize Tempi’s delight.
I love hats, but finding just the right look is often a struggle. I’m still trying to find a wide-brim visor like the one someone stole from the Y’s locker room 3 years ago.

  5. Oh my! We have terrible winds today. Sorry about your hat too.

  6. Ginny Hartzler says:

Good idea! And you ALMOST had it, too!

I thought I could get it from her since she hadn’t hurt it yet. She has a streak of mischief, which is one reason we love her. 🙂

I’ve taken to wearing a beret around here. The winds in Prescott Valley can be fierce and anything with a brim is subject to jeopardy. I used to wear a Greek sailor’s cap frequently. I was in a hat shop in Austin, Texas once and told the proprietor who commented on it that it was a dual nation hat. First, I said, it is a Greek sailor’s cap. But if you turn it around it’s a German submariner’s hat. That got a laugh but no discount on his fee for cleaning and blocking my felt cowboy hat.

  8. I have lots quite a few hats over the years, mostly from the gusts on a fishing boat.
