Unfortunately That Wasn’t the Whole Story

Even though Andy managed to cross the bridge fine both ways, he had a fall after the second crossing. The trail was rough and as he was walking he was looking ahead to see where to go next. He tripped and fell face forward on a downhill slope. He got banged up a bit, especially on the face, but he’s already healing fine. One of the wounds was just under his right eye (the good one, he says) and it’s scary to think what might have happened if the eye itself had been damaged.

Lesson learned? No, he says relearned. He says he already knew if he’s going to look at anything but where to put his feet on a walk, he needs to stop. No multitasking!

We’re just so glad that no permanent damage was done.

  1. oh no

    glad he had company

we often forget, right there and then, we are not 30!

bob is also now not able to multitask when walking. Focus is on the clear footing. he finds it difficult to walk in grass, need a sidewalk of street. So happy Andy’s good eye was not harmed. Men seem to think they must do what they always did and that they can. Bob did cut the grass yesterday, I did the back yard. the only blood was me this time, got to close to a limb on a bush and peeled the skin back on my arm… aging ain’t for sissies

    …I’m often a slow learner.

I am glad he had no broken bones and no damage to the his good eye!

Big whew! I still think Andy’s pretty amazing. Reminds me of that quote by Clint Eastwood on his 88th birthday: “I try to get up and be productive, and don’t let the old man in.”

  6. Boy, that was close and we are sure happy Andy is okay. Sometimes I have a hard time singletasking LOL!

  7. Ann Thompson says:

So glad he wasn’t seriously hurt. He’s like a Timex watch, takes a licking and keeps on ticking…lol

  8. I am so thankful that he is okay. Does he have cell service from there?

  9. Ginny Hartzler says:

OH my goodness!!! Thanking God that he was not badly hurt. I HAVE to come to a complete stop when I am just walking along, if I want to look up at anything. I have to look at the ground whenever I walk. People tell you to keep your head up and look forward, but that is bad advice for a senior with bad balance and arthritis.

Like Ginny (and others) I too have to look where I’m going. For someone who used to take very long walks as a kid and who used to clamber around on rocks it’s a disappointment but just part of the aging process I get. Andy is lucky he didn’t break something in his fall. Please tell him to be careful and remember he’s not a kid anymore either.

  11. The OP Pack says:

We are so sorry to hear this. We hope Andy will be OK. We have learned from that bad arm break to try to always pay attention to surroundings. But it is easy to be distracted and forget:(
