About Those Gray Foxes….

and lack thereof. So our area has gobs of coyotes and few sightings of gray foxes. Could there possibly be a connection? Yes. Apparently in rural areas coyotes harass and kill gray foxes, so the foxes mostly live in heavily forested areas, where they can climb trees and be safe. Or else they move to urban areas, where there’s plenty of food for both species and they pretty much ignore one another.

…a subject that I know little about. Have a Happy 4th.

  7. Animals are forced together in unnatural circumstances by the ever-intrusive expansion of humans disrupting their lives, and that’s probably not going to change. Coyotes and foxes are both welcome in my world.

  8. I, too, had no clue that foxes could climb trees.

  9. MadSnapper says:

I had no idea and don’t know if we have foxes here, I have only seen coyotes, otters, coons, possums and many different types of birds.. they probably have them outside the city limits

  10. MadSnapper says:

yes, we do have both grey and red foxes in our county and all of Florida, but they stay in the country if at all possible, we are close to the coast and I imagine they are out east of us where my cousins live

  11. I didn’t know foxes would climb trees either. Happy Independence Day!

  12. The OP Pack says:

That doesn’t surprise us. We have lots of coyote sightings in our very populated area. The coyotes are known for stealing small dogs from yards, so taking the foxes seems likely too.

    ??? HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!! ????

  13. Ginny Hartzler says:

SO interesting! I guess I would tell a grey fox from a coyote by the tail, foxes have bushy tails.

  14. That’s interesting.
    Happy 4th of July!

I’d never have guessed that. Happy Independence Day to you and Andy!
