No Internet, No Electricity

I’m not talking about Florida or down here, I’m talking about up on the land. We haven’t had it for a couple of weeks now, and there’s no telling when we’ll have it again. The idea was to change our battery system so it required a lot less maintenance, and the change was supposed to start happening about August 26th. Hopefully they will work on it again this week. More about that later when we know what’s happening.

In the meantime I had been waiting for the internet to come back before going up to the land, but the fall colors weren’t waiting for that. So I went up Friday.

It’s been a patchy fall, but there were some bright colors.

A set of colored pencils came before we left here to go up, so I brought them along. I used one of Annie’s pictures for inspiration,

and I drew this:

It was a short but good trip. We left early because we had appointments to get our flu shots down here that afternoon.

    …the joy of remote living.

  5. I can see why you felt the desire to go there, internet or not. Beautiful.

  6. Beautiful fall scenery up there.
Love the little bear drawing. 🙂

  7. Pixie says:

Your view looks like the interior of BC and I can see remants of a fire. Looks like a beautiful place to just be.

    • Jean says:

Those remnants are probably from the 2011 fire. It burned all the trees except one on our land — that’s why we have such great views. But we did love those trees.

  8. Hopefully that will be fixed soon.
I love your drawings. Ann is inspiring a lot of people to draw.

  9. Bruce Taylor says:

Yes, it appears it has been patchy. I like your bear.

  10. Ginny Hartzler says:

I’m glad you went early, because it looks like it is at the peak of it’s color! Very pretty. I have been saving some of Anne’s drawings as well, the ones that look easy to copy. So we will both have fun trying this. Dumb question, but what do those batteries power on the land? Lights?

    • Jean says:

They power the lights, fans, microwave, internet, and electric heaters when we need them. (We also have propane.) The greenhouse temperatures have been getting up to over 120 degrees because of no fans. The plants are not happy.

Fortunately the refrigerator runs on propane.

  11. Myra Guca says:

It still looks beautiful to me! Your little bear is adorable.

  12. The OP Pack says:

We have had so little rain that they say our fall colors will be very muted and short-lived. The yellow tree is so pretty. Love your drawing – I am so NOT am artist.

  13. That is such a pretty scene and your drawing is so cute!
