I’m Glad I Checked

One of the frozen pasta products we use a lot was on the recall list for listeria. I checked the one in our freezer and it was safe. So we weren’t surprised when the store didn’t have more on the shelf Wednesday. I was surprised they already had some yesterday. I assumed it was a new, safe, shipment, but just in case I went to the customer service desk and asked.

Nope, they were on the recall list. I gave the two I had planned to buy to the gal behind the desk and pointed out there were more for sale in the frozen food department. I don’t know if they followed through, but at least I had warned them. I’m glad I checked!

I am glad you checked, too

    …this recall is spooky!

  3. There are so many recalls, these days.

    God bless.

They’re trying to track food-borne illnesses and figure out where they’re coming from. It’s hard and on the whole they do a good job.

  4. I’m surprised at this. Wires got crossed somewhere in that store.

  5. I often wonder how quickly they get those recalls off the shelf. Some store managers are probably better at it than others.

  6. Christine says:

I have a few michelina dinners I better check, thanks.

  7. That is a shame that they restocked with the bad ones. That’s just not right.

  8. So many recalls lately. Scary! Glad you checked and I hope they got rid of the rest of them in the store! 🙂

  9. Good catch, you can’t be too safe these days.

  10. Myra Guca says:

So glad you did! I’m surprised a major retailer like that wasn’t already on top of that.

The store warned us on our receipts. Otherwise I wouldn’t have known. Somehow the word didn’t get down to the right store employees.

  11. Ann Thompson says:

Someone messed up when they put those out. Glad you checked before you bought them.

  12. Bruce Taylor says:

Holy crap! Is anybody minding the store?

  13. Ginny Hartzler says:

Good grief! They should have been up to date on this! I’m SO very glad you were aware and checked. It seems that every week, there is some kind of food contamination warning. It’s no joke and the grocery stores need to do better.

  14. Jean says:

It’s hard to figure out what causes outbreaks like this. On the whole they’re doing great detective work. But the store really messed up about the restocking.

  15. lots of recalls here

but what has taken us by surprise is some “oranges” – they looked perfectly normal but the inner flesh “black” – I looked up on line, some sort of mold/bacteria attacking the inner flesh.

no cook is taking responsibility – although not really something they could “see”

  16. MadSnapper says:

me to on the glad you checked, they should remove all as soon as the recall is out there. it is getting worrisome with all the dangerous foods they are recalling

  17. The OP Pack says:

It sure was a good thing you checked. The store should have been more careful. Listeria is scary. I often point out at the store dairy products that are well beyond expirations dates. Sloppy workers.

    • Jean says:

It’s impressive how they can figure out which products are causing the problem. Sometimes it takes days before symptoms appear, those cases are a lot harder to figure out.
