My Window on the World

The above is a screen shot from yesterday’s Zoom meeting with the group I studied with in Germany 65 years ago. One of the students had stayed in Europe and passed away last year, and her two sons joined yesterday’s meeting. One still lives in Germany, the other lives in northern Spain.

As I’ve said before, the internet is my window to the world. This is the kind of social media that expands our horizons and deepens our thinking instead of just grabbing our attention and wasting our time.

How wonderful that you can keep in touch even though you are all so far apart.

  4. MadSnapper says:

I have never done a zoom, so have no clue how, but I have seen it on TV enough to know its a great way to get together. I would like to do this with my family, sons and brother and his family but no one wants to.

    …I would miss the internet.

I have not ever done a zoom meeting…I tried one time, but never got connected. this is awesome that the two sons were able to join it. What a great way to stay connected. Happy Sunday.

While at the 1964 World’s Fair I remember signing up to be an ‘international pen pal’ — but can’t recall anything coming from that.
I’m delighted to see your team’s taken this concept to a whole new level!

I joined a pen pal group once and found a few people to correspond with. But blogging works a lot better for me. Once I discovered it I felt at home — it was something I had been looking for for years.

  8. You have certainly kept up with technology! I have not done zoom but have done facetime and virtual medical appointments. It has been fun to talk to a friend in Denmark via facetime.

  9. That is so wonderful you have all kept in touch!!
I only managed to (kind of accidentally) figure out how to be on a zoom call during covid once–lol! It was a bunch of paper crafters and artists. What a magical world we live in. 🙂

I totally agree. It is so lovely that you have all stayed in touch after all this time. What was this study?

    • Jean says:

It was new Stanford program at the time. They started with a campus in Germany and the idea was for us to spend the last two quarters of our Sophomore year there finishing up general studies requirements and living in a foreign country. I was a physics major so went my junior year. That was messier — I had a horrible course load my senior year, but it was worth it.

  11. Wow, that is amazing. I’m so glad you are able to do that. I’ve never done anything like that.

    • Jean says:

It’s fun. They used to get together at different places once a year, but I don’t travel so didn’t go. Now with Zoom I can join them.

  12. Bruce Taylor says:

My monitor doesn’t have a camera so I can’t do Zoom. I did one once with a laptop that did have a camera. But it was kind of awkward.

  13. Technology sure has advantages and it’s cool that you get to use so many things like the online meetings!

  14. Pixie says:

    Which one is you?

  15. DB Stewart says:

This is inspiring and encouraging and lovely.

  16. Technology is wonderful if used right!

  18. Lori Lamborn says:

It really is wonderful that you all have stayed in touch. This inspiration is worthy of being passed down to younger generations. I appreciate your bit about social media, as well. Thank you for sharing.

  19. Catherine says:

I’ve done a few online zoom type classes – always a bit of a pain in the neck, setting up where I should sit, what is around me.
A few weeks ago, a disaster when the convenor didn’t know that the zoom product she uses had a cut off point when too many wanted to be in it…she kindly of course had recorded it, so I watched later that week…
