The last few posts reminded me of the end of Alfred, Lord Tennyson’s Ulysses:
Come, my friends,
‘Tis not too late to seek a newer world.
Push off, and sitting well in order smite
The sounding furrows; for my purpose holds
To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.
It may be that the gulfs will wash us down;
It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,
And see the great Achilles, whom we knew.
Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are,
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
“Though much is taken, much abides.” Not giving up yet. Doing the best we can with what we have left. 😀

God bless always.
Thank you. 🙂
…amen to this.
🙂
Doing the best we can with what we have left is all any of us can do.
Sometimes it gets a bit pathetic here, so a sense of humor helps a lot.
Good words to hold onto.

I had so hoped to coast in this last decade of my life, having fought the good fight most of my life. But the poem is right, it’s not to late to seek a newer world. In fact, we have no real choice in the matter….
Yes, here at least, we no longer have to go looking for adventure, it comes to us and demands our attention.
How this line’s resonates! “Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will.”
That’s my favorite part too!
So well said
🙂
all that we can do is the Best we can do. My father-in-law says this all the time….he is 95. Truth in every word.
Yes. 🙂
My favorite part is “Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will”.
That’s my favorite part too.
I agree, that’s all we can do each and every day.
🙂
I do like the title – we do try to keep on keeping on!
