Hurray for Alerts?

Do you use alerts? I almost always turn them off, but last week Duolingo would email me in the evening if I hadn’t done a lesson that day. I was up to my ears in something so I appreciated the reminder. Then, as suddenly as the messages had appeared, they stopped. I had found it so useful I poked around to see how I could restart them. No problem, for only $25 a month Duo would start them again.

Sorry, Duo, they were nice, but not that nice!

Oh the ease of extracting $$ nowadays.

Most of my alerts are set by me, because I don’t own a clock or a watch. And I need to stop doing something regularly, like go to lunch or dinner.

But then there’s the alert about a scheduled appointment at xyz tomorrow. Canel now or pay the price if you fail to appear…

But none want a monthly payment…

I usually turn alerts off. Most places tend to go overboard with how often they send them. I don’t mind the excessive emails so much as i do the constant text messages.
I wouldn’t pay for alerts either.

    …they are always hungry.

My alerts are turned off….I’m old school and my “book” calendar is always by my side…

  5. I don’t know what ‘alerts’ are so I guess I don’t use them. I do get weather alerts that signed up for and those are useful. And I get alerts from my hair dresser, pedicurist and doctor when I have appointments coming up. Are these the kinds of alerts you mean? I like them.

  6. The only ones I get are the ones everyone gets–bad weather and those alerts where a child or elderly person is missing. They are very loud and scare me half to death when they go off–which is seldom.

  7. I have most alerts turned off. The constant ping is very annoying.

  9. Everything they can charge – not just Duo – all – cost money!

I use the iphone for 6 alerts, alarms are really what they are, that say hey give Beau and bob their gabapentin, or text your DIL

I would definitely use an alert for French fries.

The only alerts we get are local weather. But they are really helpful, especially as I am forgetting a bit more lately. Ginny

  14. My alerts are off too, they are annoying!

Living in tornado alley, I wouldn’t be without my weather alerts.

Yes, we do get alerts for the weather when it is severe, especially thunderstorms or tornados. But lately we seem to be getting more flood warnings. And then last week we got an emergency alert from the water company as there was a major water main break just up the street. Alerts can be annoying, but sometimes very helpful.
