Changing Light Bulbs

Here are pictures of Andy changing a light bulb last March.

Needless to say, I didn’t feel comfortable about him doing it. I think he changed one more since then, but Wednesday night when one bulb went out in our kitchen, even he decided we should get help. We had some possible helpers lined up, but he went over the manager’s office and asked if we could pay someone to do it for us. The woman said no problem, no charge, she would send someone right over.

Sure enough two guys came over, and one was very tall. I gave him the new light bulb and said we had a ladder. He said he didn’t need one, and proceeded to take the cover off and change the bulb. The other bulb was dimmer than the new one and he asked if I wanted that one changed too. Yes please! So he changed it, replaced the cover, and they left.

How easy was that?! We’ve lived in this apartment for about 50 years now — it’s not fancy but we love it. And we’re grateful that so far we can get the help we need to continue living here.

Andy is still laughing that the fellow didn’t even need a ladder. He said, “That puts me in my place.”

And some light fixtures makes it really a challenge to change the bulbs. Glad you all got the help in changing the bulb. Safer and less stressful…Have wonderful Saturday.

I love this solution! THANK YOU.

  4. You have probably lived there longer than anyone! It takes awhile but the guys do finally accept help. 🙂

  5. I’m glad you can get help with the light bulbs by contacting the manger! That looked pretty sketchy!

  6. Christine says:

smart to get help for climbing chores

  7. Ginny Hartzler says:

I’m so glad they helped! Apartments should do all the upkeep for free. Phil has to stand on the bed to change our bedroom light.

I’m glad to see you guys taking advantage of that service. Our apartment complex not only changes the light bulbs for free, they provide the bulbs for free, too. That’s one of my favorite perks here. I don’t need to watch Dave climb ladders anymore, either.

Even climbing up a smaller step stool makes my knees weak. Now I wonder what happened to the girl who used to scamper up pine trees … even a rope ladder without a single qualm. I’m so glad those men were willing to help!

  10. Hooray for the help that came through when you needed it!

Always nice to have help available. That did look kind of dangerous having Andy using the ladder and the step stool.
That must have been a very tall guy to be able to change the bulb without standing on anything.

I was so relieved when I read the last part of the post I forgot what I wanted to say. the sight of him standing on those two ladders nearly gave me a heart attacks. MEN ARE NUTS. even Young ones.. So happy you got the help you needed, and you should after that long in one place. I had never lived in one home, apt or rental, for more than 4 years until I married Bob and we were in the house he had for 5 years and then moved here and been stuck for 35, with me begging him to move. he is a rock and at 89 has only lived in 7 homes and I am 81 and lived in 30. My son Dan can change light bulbs with out ladders.. he is 6’5″ and has monkey paws, arms so long they go almost to his knees, he can put his hands flat on our ceiling.. wish he lived closer..

  13. That does not look safe at all. Glad that worked out for you.

  14. Wow an easy fix right under your nose! Great!
