Deep sleep is when our bodies and minds restore themselves, and that’s more apt to happen for most people when the room is cooler.
Your bedroom should be your sleep sanctuary. Studies show that a cool room temperature, between 60-67ยฐF (15-19ยฐC), promotes deeper sleep. Darkness is crucial too – even small amounts of light can disrupt your sleep cycles. Consider investing in blackout curtains or a sleep mask. And if outside noise is an issue, a white noise machine can help create a consistent, soothing sound environment.
—How to get more deep sleep? A sleep clinicโs guide
I have blackout curtains and a sleep mask, which also help. I’m not good about consistent bedtimes, another important strategy, but I’m working on that. I like having more energy during the day.

I’ve never had a consistent time to sleep since I was a baby, I think–lol! But I do have a sleep mask and that helps me sleep better and longer. They are wonderful! ๐
Yes!
My bedtime is pretty consistent. The bedroom is in the upstairs of my house and always the warmest place in the house. When it’s really hot I can’t sleep there. Of course before I broke the air conditioner it was no problem in the summer. It was nice and cool
A/C helps a lot! we just have it in the living room.
…we are having great sleeping weather.
That’s great!
Autumn is good for sleep!
Yes! ๐
this would not work for me, I hate the dark and must have light and a sleep mask would make me crazy… all I need is low light and a bed and I go to sleep early while the sun is still up. my sleep is broken by the dog and the man or both.. what I needed before all this chaos happended was an off switch for the what if treadmill in my brain.
That’s the hard part for a lot people.
We have sliding glass doors in our bedroom with nothing on them. We do use a sound machine. My biggest problem is shutting my mind off.
That’s the hard part for a lot of people.
I sleep in the dark, with the temps as low as we can afford! I do sleep pretty good too.
That’s great.
We bought blackout curtains but we got the ones with huge grommets you feed over a round curtain rod. That means light comes in above the curtains but not enough to bother me. I have an eye mask but only use it when taking an overnight flight.
The trick I learned to shut off my mind is working for me. I simply think of a word, like tree, then mentally list words for each letter: table, tricky, train, responsible, rain, rush, etc.
That’s a great idea.
For sure I think winter is the best time to sleep. Fall and spring are too unpredictable, with it being unexpectedly hot or cold during the night.
Yes, about sleeping in winter! But then it’s cold when I get out of bed. ๐
I couldn’t wear the mask. The room is dark, though.
No need for one then.
Good sleep is important
Yes. ๐
Even though we keep our thermostat set at the same (76*) the air just feels different in Autumn and Winter. Wish I dared to open the windows at night, but I’d fret too much about creepy crawlies … even the two-legged kind.
We have screens on all our windows, and we’re on the second floor which helps for the big critters.
Sleeping good is always a wonderful thing!

I’ve taken to retiring at between 7 and 8 and the light usually goes out shortly before or after 8. The cat gets me up between 4:30 and 5 for her first breakfast and sometime I go back to bed for an hour or two. This morning I did and slept and dreamt. It was good.
That’s great. I usually take a nap in the afternoon, using in the arm chair.
Sometimes, I sleep lots, often napping the daylight. Right now I’ve got a problem with my arms, I.have found a way that they don’t start yelling at me st night. I call them :”arm pillows” works most nights!
