First some commenters said the crane should have parked somewhere else Wednesday night so people could have parked in those spaces.

Actually, they needed room to work Thursday. I watched as they parked the crane and extended it to keep that area free of cars.
Also Ginny said she thought the stairs would be safer now because before there was too much open space between the steps.

Yes, we had to be careful before. The steps were about the same width, but the inside of each step was slightly under the step above it so it was easy to trip if we didn’t pay attention. Now we can use the whole width of the step without having to worry. Also the old steps were unevenly spaced so we had to pay attention to that too.
We may have more trouble removing snow from the steps now. Before we could kick or brush it through the open spaces. Those open spaces are a lot smaller now.

We’ll have to see. I’ll let you know! In the meantime, we’re very pleased.

…this wasn’t the workers first rodeo!
Yes. π
From my point of view, having experienced those for almost or 50 years (even though I am 29), having them evenly spaced is the best (now that I am old). I used to skip over the edge and avoid the bottom ones up, but that isnβt great either.
Yes, these are so much better! π
That darn snow- stay safe
Thanks. π
The new steps are a huge improvement.
Yes! π
I think you are all going to love the new steps! π
We do! π
Those handrails on both sides even look a little wider.
Remembering my own youthful “hijinks”, Kaitlin’s comment makes me nod and grin.

That detail about the steps being safer now is interesting. It makes complete sense that a slight overhang or uneven spacing would be a big tripping hazard, especially on a regular route. The improved uniformity should make a real difference, even if you do lose the convenient snow-clearing gaps.
I wonder if a quick application of a non-clumping rock salt product on those newly closed steps might solve the snow removal challenge for you. That seems like a small trade off for the huge benefit of increased safety. I look forward to your update on the first heavy snowfall.
Actually the management eventually cleans the snow off, so it might not be a big deal. I will let you know! π
They really are a big improvement, both in looks and safety.
Yes. π
Looks like a lot fewer steps, which is good! They look so nice.
Yes. π
They do look lots, lots better!

I am thinking that back when they built the first steps people were not aware of danger on steps like they are now, I am sure they were built before Cell Phones kept us up to date on safety issues. They are perfect
They were built around 1970, a few years before we moved in.
Well that does make sense that they would park the crane like that. The thing that I noticed the most here is that there are fewer steps on the new ones than there were on the old.
A lot fewer steps and safer to use.
You guys have to clean off the snow?
If they haven’t cleaned it off by the time we need to go out.
