Too Soon?

Some people start decorating for Christmas as soon as Halloween is over. We don’t decorate down here any more, but when we got our tree from up on the land it was always on December 19. That’s still the official day for Andy turning on the lights on our tree up there.

Here are some pictures taken of it in 2022:

This one was taken with a telephoto lens, from the mesa across from us while we were driving home:

Do you decorate for Christmas? If so, when do you usually do it?

I do decorate for Christmas. The earliest I will start is Thanksgiving night. My rule has always been that the turkey has to have been eaten and the dishes have to have been washed before Christmas can come out. Back when we got a real tree we didn’t get it until the 15th but now that I have an artificial it goes up much earlier.

    …don’t rush things.

  3. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t. I always did when I had people around, but now it’s usually just the two of us. I did last year and it was nice. This is a rugged place. No noisy neighbors there. Does Andy put the lights up there?

He used to put the whole thing up some time before Christmas and take it down sometime after January 1. Now we’ve convinced him to leave it up all year. He does need to change bulbs once in a while.

We broke with the December 19th tradition and do it some time after Thanksgiving. I pretty much stick with the taking them down January 1 tradition though. I love that tree on the roof!

  5. Usually if I decorated at all (the past few years I hadn’t) it was right after Thanksgiving. This year I am ready right now…but don’t know where my decorations landed when I moved–lol! Early table tree this year maybe. Need it. If I can find it–lol! 🙂

How awesome is the tree!!! I usually wait until the Day after Thanksgiving, but not this year. My tree is already up and my lights are on the house.. Just what I had to do this year due to Sam’s upcoming doctor’s visits and my trip. Of course..I’m turning the outside lights on until after Thanksgiving.

  7. Cute joke.
I hope to put our tree up this year along with the ornaments. We shall see how my health goes. Enjoyed the photos you shared.

We no longer decorate but when we did the rule was not before Thanksgiving.

  9. Ginny Hartzler says:

It looks like a dangerous endeavor!! I take all my fall things down the day after Thanksgiving and put up Christmas things. But it takes me so long to decorate for the seasons now that I try to put out things that will look good all winter.

Halloween isn’t a big tradition here, but it is on here and there.
Mixed in with candy fir H was also Christmas! Yesterday our sweet biscuit after lunch was Christmas mince tarts! So here it will continue…

Andy’s tree on the rooftop is one of the coolest traditions I’ve ever heard of! Because I’m loathe to rush Autumn/Thanksgiving, we don’t put up our tree until early December. (It doesn’t come down again until the Epiphany.)

  12. Bruce Taylor says:

No outside lights or decor here, just some simple table panoramas. I just asked Judy and she said she usually decorates the week after Thanksgiving and takes them down again on New Year’s Day. I ignore the whole thing other than to compliment her handiwork.

  13. We usually don’t decorate for Christmas until after Thanksgiving.

  14. Linda says:

I am divorced since 1998 and live alone, so I don’t decorate for Christmas. I do enjoy seeing the decorations in the city, though, in restaurants and in front of homes.
The cartoon made me laugh, thank you so much for sharing!

  15. We do what we feel like for decorating. This year my daughter has already put up the tree. Is that your house? Awesome.

    • Jean says:

We live in an apartment down here in town, but we have this small house up in the mountains. Andy goes up almost every day to work on his projects.
