I missed the internet Tuesday, of course, and I checked every hour or so to see if it was back. I fully expected to have access before bedtime that night, but it wasn’t meant to be.
But it’s probably a good thing to be forced to do without the internet for a bit. I did get some other things done. When it went out I made a Possibility List of things I could do, and I started with the easiest just to get me started. That was looking at two video DVDs I had ordered and gotten Sunday. (DVDs so I could see them if we had power but no internet. Talk about good timing.)
The first DVD had a couple of exercises I’m already trying to work into my everyday life, and the second one I’ll watch part of from time to time. I bought that one partly for meditation breaks, but mostly because it’s by Dr. Paul Lam. I knew he started learning Tai Chi to help relieve his own arthritis, and then he decided to share what he learned with the world. According to Perplexity,
Lamβs osteoarthritis started around age 13, following years of chronic malnutrition and hard labor which deformed his joints and led to persistent pain. Despite these challenges, he persevered through childhood and medical training, eventually finding tai chi a helpful tool for his condition after conventional treatments left much to be desired.
After starting tai chi for self-care, Lam found it not only relieved his arthritis pain, but also enhanced his balance, energy, and overall wellbeing. His personal success motivated him to learn more deeply, collaborate with medical and tai chi experts, and eventually teach and adapt tai chi specifically for those with arthritis.
He reminds me of William Ernest Henley, the author of Invictus. They both suffered painful health problems from an early age and refused to be helpless victims. Instead they went on to make contributions to the world.

Thank goodness for power
When the outages occur here, I could do lots of other things but I’m never in the mood!!!
And my smartphone is just by me…constantly checking the “bars” of course it comes on when I’m at dinner or taking a walk…no.fanfare but there it is!!!
I know, that’s why I make a Possibility List. It helps me start to do something instead of just waiting.
Both of those look interesting. I might have to look into those. I was doing exercises through Hinge Health and I think it’s just made things worse.
There are also a lot of videos on YouTube, but I wanted a backup for when the internet was out.
I’m feeling a few aches and pains from some arthritis so it might be a good thing for me to look at these videos. thank you for sharing..
The DVDs aren’t the highest quality, and there are some good videos on YouTube. But these are a big help when the internet is down.
That DVD looks interesting, I found it on youtube and will take a look at it. Thank you.
Great!
Yay you for planning ahead!
Yes, the timing was great!
That first funny sounds like me too!
π
I am very tempted to buy the Tai Chi one!! But of course it would have to be doable for someone as decrepit as me!
I think they can be modified for people who have to sit. A lot of exercise videos for seniors expect that some people will need to do that.
Your forethought worked its wonders. Perfect!
Yes, the timing was great!
You are inspiring me to do some senior exercises. I have ad free streaming on YouTube so I could find something that would work for me.
Thanks Jean!

Great! Please let us know how it goes. π
I think you are smart doing that – if you don’t use it you WILL lose it – I saw that with my mom.
I exercise and stretch every day.
I have Mr. Arthritis too – in my hands – not fun!
I exercise over an hour every day, but I don’t do as much stretching as I should.
The cartoon made me laugh! Losing power is never fun!
I have psoriatic arthritis and am very interested in Tai Chi! Thank you so much for sharing.
I live near a park here in Montreal, and I see a few Asian (elderly) people doing Tai Chi in the park in the summer! I enjoy watching them and get some good ideas of the movements. There are great benefits in this.
I love to take long walks in nature, and on days where this is not possible due to extreme heat and other weather conditions, I walk in a mall. I have to admit, though, the nature walk is a lot more therapeutic.
Thank you so much for sharing this post!
Thank you!
So glad to see your Internet connection is back!
Since I suffer (none too graciously) from osteo arthritis, I want to learn more about Lam’s Tai Chi. Thank you for telling us about him.
I hope it helps.
I think you should prop your ipad up and make a video to show us how to do the ones you learn, I would be willing to pay for it. ha ha ha.. have fun hope the power is own. maybe a color book, crayons or sketch pad for when the power is out and every thing goes with it
I have those to. And my music apps as well as print song sheets. And, a lot of Kindle books, too, of course. π
