These Did Better Than I Expected

After my second celery died I tried planting some chives. But, as the internet warned me, they didn’t get enough light. They were pale and anemic, so I tossed them. Then, when I was sprouting some mung beans, I tried planting some of those.

They did a lot better than I expected, but now with winter coming they’re dying. Not enough light, and even though our windows are double paned, it’s still cold on the sill. I may try again next spring and summer. We’ll see.

I thought this video was fun to watch.

About winter — Andy stayed down here again yesterday. We had a bit of snow again, and he didn’t want to take chances driving up to the mountains. Tomorrow should be fine.

How are things going with you?

My celery is still alive but not looking as good and I think because of the cold and lack of light. These look like fun

I don’t even know what Mung Beans are but now I do. they sure grew quickly and looked like a house plant. maybe next summer

…in a garden, clives can take over.

I think you are amazing for trying this indoor gardening. I know you will do great come Spring. The snow looks pretty, but I know it can be a lot of work in cleaning off the steps and sidewalks.

  5. Kaitlin says:

How fun with the plants. I am curious to see what you do in the spring. How are the new stairs in the snow?

  6. Christine says:

    Good try on the beans

  7. The plant looks like a bird with a large beak when it starts to open! Not only did I enjoy the video, the music lifted my spirits.

  8. I’m glad you have done well with the chives. Burr on the snow. Be careful out there.

  9. Ginny Hartzler says:

I’m glad he is being careful. The Mung Beans have done the best of all of them!

  10. I am on break. Great to be on break with a winter storm coming. Just a cat and a blanket and being warm and safe. 🙂

The sun has finally returned here today but we found that all the rain we’ve received in the past several days weakened the glue holding Judy & Gayle’s hot air balloons to her fence mural and they fell to the ground. But, unlike in a real life balloon crash, these were unharmed and will be reinstalled.

I’d never heard of mung beans … but what perseverance! I’ve a wanna-be lemon tree I planted months ago from a single seed. He/she’s 3″ tall now and still makes me smile.
No snow here, but we’re told to prepare for the possibility of severe weather tomorrow.

  13. The celery gave it a good go!!!

  14. I don’t have one good place for an indoor garden with light – my windows are all over the place.

    • Jean says:

The window I use faces south, but there’s a big overhang so it only gets direct light for a couple of hours a day. In the morning and late afternoon.

  15. Linda says:

You did really well ? ??

  16. Catherine says:

Many bean sprouts are available here. Not just Mung but others, some more pungent than others.

As fir weather there have been a mixed bag…
