I mentioned this fellow before. His description of old folks falling was so true for me — I laugh every time I think of it. For me it was surprise and awareness that I was falling, but there was no thought at all that I should do anything about it.
Things change a lot as we get older, but I’m with Andy Rooney:
I didn’t get old on purpose, it just happened. If you’re lucky, it could happen to you.
I think Diane Athill (Somewhere Towards the End) was right when she said coping well with aging is largely a matter of luck. So far for me the joys outweigh the challenges, and I’m grateful for that. I have never wanted to be younger than I am — I would have to give up too much. And I still wouldn’t want to trade my life with anyone on this earth.
What about you?

I have tears running out of my eyes from laughing. that video is hilarious and I do like him a lot. have not seen this one.. the thing is, its true. I have 4 dear friends, we were all five from Savannah and BFF’s for years. Until their deaths, all 4 of them within the past 4 years, we had an email group named, Sistas. we had lively and fun filled emails for years between the five of us. all of us in our 80’s and 3 of the 4 that died fell exactly like he is talking about, 2 dies from complications of a fall. Bob’s cardioligist told us that he has more of his heart patients die from falls than from heart attacks. He used that to tell Bob how important WALKING is, he said walk walk walk, it will stop you from falling. I am the last one living and still walking because in 2015 I started walking and and doing balance exercises every day… I have fallen twice in the past 3 years, once 2 years ago and once last year, that was from a tree root in the dark outside with a sick dog… I said to my doctor that even though I tell this story to my friends, they just will not listen. She said that is Me, I tell my patients to walk and they never listen…. thanks for the laughter. will show this to bob

This is so funny!

That video had me laughing so hard. Loved it. I like the quote about not getting old on purpose too. It’s definitely a privilege that not everyone gets. Even with all the aches and pains I’m happy to still be here.
🙂
That was a funny video and Andy Rooney was always a hoot!
🙂
Oh my gosh that was too funny partly because it is true.
I wouldn’t trade my life either. I’m glad to be here.

Ans Suz that is exactly how I fractured my shoulder in the fall
🙂
He is absolutely hilarious!!!
🙂
When I fell, I landed on my butt. Twice. Broke nothing but did have a bruise for awhile. Apparently I still have strong bones. Which they say also comes from walking. Which I used to do.
🙂
I’ve not heard of this guy before but he’s a hoot!
Love that Andy Rooney quote; wish he didn’t leave us so soon.
Yes.
That is exactly how I fell and fractured my shoulder this fall. I feel the same as you on aging.
🙂
…aren’t we all!
🙂
It’s true, growing older is a blessing. Having health issues isn’t fun but if we can continue to move forward I’m all for that. My mother in law just turned 98!
Wow! That’s impressive.
