One thing Andy and I used to wonder about was, what would happen if our landlord sold the apartments? He’s even older than Andy and I are. He spent as little money as possible on maintenance, but we do love living here.
As it turns out, he did sell the apartments to another landlord in town, one that has no plans to try to convert the apartments to condos or tear them down to build something else. The new landlord plans to invest big bucks into improving the place. Instead of doing things as cheaply as possible and having large turnovers in renters, he wants happy, stable occupants. He had a meeting last night to introduce his staff to us, to tell us his plans, and to hear our concerns. It was a warm, friendly meeting, so it bodes well.
The biggest imminent change is they will be changing all the windows in our apartments to make them thermally more efficient. It will take them about four months to do them all, but even if ours don’t get changed before the coolest temperatures this winter, in the long run our apartment should be a lot more comfortable in winter and summer. That sounds like a great start.
I’ll tell you more about the other changes as they get implemented. It should be interesting — a nice kind of interesting.

Nope – just wrapping up a week’s visit with family in Wisconsin, then heading home after being gone about 2 months.

this complex has had 4 different managers in the year and a half that i’ve been here.
it seems very well managed to me… but obviously there are some serious problems in house. it’s owned by some company out of switzerland and some other country…
whomever bought it when mariott sold it. that’s no doubt a big part of their problem.
i’m SO HAPPY for you! i mean in that it’s been your home for so many years and they won’t be demolishing or changing it too much. new windows… WONDERFUL!!!
Thanks for the good wishes! I actually stayed up until 6 am to get things looking neater. I still have more organizing to do, but I have a better idea of where things are and where they will go in the future. And I’m enjoying the less cluttered look. 🙂
A new baby deer has been added to the local group that travels between my home and the park. That’s the news!

lots of good news here – most of it of the mundane nature. Other than the trip to the cardiologist for a report on me ole heart. It’s minor and is should be no trouble in the future and his only advice was “no over exertion” – I ambled down to Henderson along Lincoln and some other street and around into the main street; then home on bus going around the houses – whilst musing on what “over exertion” actually is…
I decided it was getting back into fast exercise or running a 10k or 1/2 marathon – both of which I hadn’t planned to do… although I have walked a few 10k races in previous years – achieved the end line as well…
I came home this arvo and as I walked down the hallway I noticed that on the kitchen bench was a large carrier bag (that hadn’t been there this morning) was waiting, inside them was huge amount of green vegetables and only way I knew which person had been by (2 friends have keys) was a note that was in his handwriting that said “organic” 🙂
I’m glad most of your news has been good. It doesn’t sound as if keeping your exercise moderate will be too big a burden, thank goodness.
Good to hear of a landlord who appreciates his tenants and wants to upgrade their apartments and make them more comfortable. A nice change from all the landlords who just jack up the rent and don’t even do basic repairs if they can avoid them.
Our old landlord hated to do repairs, but he didn’t jack up the rent, thank goodness.
I wish we had landlords like that in Aus
