We can relate to both of these comics. We get piles of catalogs in the mail this time of year, and we also get a lot of inserts with ads in our local paper. In the case of the catalogs, most of them are from companies we will never do business with, but there’s no way to tell them to please help the environment by taking us off their lists. Do you have this problem?

every five years i call a number that takes you off mailing lists of all of that.
the only one i ever receive is from pier one and that’s because i gave them my number for their system. but i like their little brochure. they don’t cover you up with them.
i buy next to nothing on line. i wonder if that’s why you might get so many?
i’m sure they ALL share with each other!!!
and…
i literally L’dOL at that first cartoon! 🙂
No, we live in a small town and used to buy a lot from catalogs. They pass names and addresses around. What number do you call to stop unwanted catalogs? We still want some of ours.
i’ll see if i can’t find that number.
it was passed around at work. it was a toll free number.
oh wait.
you know what!
LOLOL!!! oh no!
the number i’m thinking of is NOT for catalogues and written material… it’s for telemarketing. sorry!
and… it’s not all that effective. i’m getting ALL KINDS of telemarketers. so it’s either expired or it never worked in the first place.
i have no idea then why i don’t get catalogues! LOLOL.
We get very little junk mail, even in the run-up to Christmas. What annoys me far more is the endless advertising on web pages, quite often on pop-ups which obscure what you’re reading until you close them.
My browser lets me ignore most popups, so it’s not so much of a problem. But sometimes it’s the price I pay for reading an article for free. I can handle that if the article is good.
Luckily I am not on any mailing lists and so do not get any kind of unsolicited mail. What I do find annoying are the fliers that are inserted into newspapers by the vendors who do this for a fee. Newspapers here have also started to arrange to flag some sheets which too is very annoying.
Yes, often there are a lot more inserts than pages in our local paper. 🙂
While I haven’t yet tried this, I’m gathering up brochures I don’t want to receive and then will try opting out via dmachoice dot org. I spend a lot of time shredding the page(s) that include our names and information and then throwing away the rest of the catalogue, all for catalogues I didn’t request in the first place. This is via the Direct Marketing Association’s website. Again, I don’t know how well it works, but I had read that one could opt out this way.
I may check that out too. Thanks for the idea.
you can buy “tags” to put on your mail box – “NO Junk Mail” but some companies are seeing through that and using a posting company to have it delivered to the “house holder @ our address.”
I don’t mind junk mail, I see it as an entertaining read at times, but it also makes me sad when I see useless stuff for kids for Xmas; must have this new trend/color/shape of household wares/clothing – and realise there are many buyers who get caught up in that – credit cards at the max and problems with putting food on the table in the New year.
sometimes there will be 3 different booklets for one company – they might all be slightly different in shape…. it’s as if the retailers only make profit at this time of the year.
I’m more into cutting back, as I feel I have enough of most things… I try though to get some nice foods in – not sure what is happening this Xmas, so not particularly worried! And I know I will be able to buy at least cafe meals come the day…
Our catalogs know our name and address even if we’ve never ordered from them. A bit hard on the environment, but it must pay for them if they send out enough.
