Unlike Earl we took thousands of slides and print pictures in the past, but we do love digital cameras. It means so much to be able to see the pictures right away, and it’s also so much easier to organize them. Are you a picture taker too?

Yes, I’ve been a picture taker most of my life, from the age of eleven, when I invested every penny I had in a Brownie camera. Now I’m faced with organizing these pictures—making the hard decisions about what I keep, and what I throw away!
We must have over 30,000! Andy scanned the old prints and slides into the computer, and we’ve more or less organized them there. I organize the new ones as soon as we download them. Much easier than letting the job pile up.
We haven’t tried to organize the old prints — we’ve just left them in boxes. Most of the pictures aren’t high quality, but they’re good enough to remind us of past experiences and to see the changes up on the land.

I am not a picture taker as such. Something important comes along and I will use my mobile phone to take a photograph.
Mobile phones are great for that. 🙂
When Dave went to Viet Nam his first purchase overseas was a camera. All that year he took roll after roll of pictures. He sent them to the developer who sent the slides to me. Dave never saw any of those pictures until he came home. But they are beautiful!

I seldom take photos – I don’t even own a camera or smartphone. I just enjoy things without feeling the need for a memory-jogging bundle of photos. I can’t imagine having 30,000 of them!
It is a ridiculously large number, isn’t it? 🙂 We heard the best way to take a good picture was to take gazillions, then choose the best ones. We never got to that second step.
