Chasing Niagara

A kayaker dreamed of kayaking over Niagara Falls, a number of his friends joined his team to prepare for it, and a film maker documented the effort.

The ending wasn’t what they had hoped, but they made the movie anyway. It’s not available on Netflix yet, but I’ll watch it when it is.

The scenery is spectacular.

I simply cannot understand these so called dare devils. How can one hold one’s own life so worthless? I am glad that the ending was different from what we expected.

They didn’t hold the kayaker’s life as worthless. As I read the article, they spent three years in preparation so he could do it without killing himself. It wasn’t the danger of going over the falls that stopped them, it was the almost certainty of being caught and going to jail.

I couldn’t have said it better than rummy.
that is not a dream in my estimation. it’s a peculiar death wish.
    but then…
our life is a gift. and what each of us chooses to do with it is a personal thing.

I’m afraid I have to disagree about the death wish. I do agree that we’re all different and will make different choices.

a marvellous journey, even if it was foolhardy – imagine all the planning and practice that the guys undertook to even get to the point of “oh we can’t do it”…and I’m certain it helped them, along with law enforcement agencies who no doubt might have been looking for some dead guy in the raging torrent…

great creativity, hopefully they learnt a lot about making adventure films and continue to without the foolhardy notions…

That is pretty intense. I am glad that RedBull supported them making it.

    That’s pretty cool.
I mean to watch because I marvel at their total lack of fear.
I’m scared to go inside some gas stations!
But yeah, totally DON’T understand the why.
I found a clip of a guy that I met in Fort Lauderdale on Spring Break when I was young.
He was a bartender and my friend and I talked with him a bit and he told us all about his plans. Of course we thought he was just talking and then he went it did it!
Here’s the clip when he was on Johnny Carson –
