I’m still blown away by the Dalai Lama, who won’t kill anything, even mosquitoes. I hope he has good screens on his windows!

the mosquito is a wretched tiny thing. but not nearly as bad as the deerflies in northern Minnesota when they’re in season. they HURT. and they are all over you if you hike as a first time resident not knowing what to expect and to then prepare for them. how deer can put up with them … OR the wonderful Dalai Lama I do not know either!
We’re lucky here, it’s been years since we’ve even seen a mosquito. No complaints!
here in some places there are the
“dreaded sandflies” that actually become at times swooms (?sp) and they won’t leave you alone, searching out any opening, any food stuff and generally getting into mischief with one’s temper…
but mossie are annoying from finding that special hiding place, when you switch on the light, looking for them during their evening dinner hour/s!!
some mossies carry sickness which isn’t good at all…

Yes, mosquitoes here in the states are especially a concern because of the West Nile and Zika viruses. So far we’re too far north for malaria to be a big concern. I do remember having trouble with hiding, laying in wait, mossies in the past. Andy got so angry one night in France he sprayed our whole bedroom, then got back to bed. As I recall I went into the living room and slept on the couch that night. The smell of the pesticide was really bad.
One is never too far away from a mosquito or a few in India. You simply cannot escape them unless you are in air conditioned places. You can screen all you want but, they will find ways of coming inside and bug you. I suppose that you have already read what my Guru used to say about man getting inside a net to get away from a mosquito whereas he uses nets to catch big game, birds and fish. God’s sense of humour.

Precious few mosquitoes in Britain, but plenty in other European countries. I was once ferociously attacked in Florence and then arrived in Rome with a face bright red with mosquito bites. I must have looked a sight. No doubt mosquitoes will still be thriving after we humans have been finished off by environmental pollution.
Apparently mosquitoes have been on earth for tens of millions of years, cockroaches for at least 300 million years. I’m still betting on the cockroaches.
