Poor Pup!

Andy and I didn’t get much sleep Thursday night/yesterday morning. We were awoken around 3 am by a dog barking in the dog park behind our building and below our bedroom windows. That was unusual enough, but it was even stranger that the barking went on until morning. Apparently his owner had taken him out to do his business, then went home, completely forgetting about the pup.

Let’s hope the owner doesn’t have kids.

Andy went over to mention it to the managers before he left yesterday morning, and they said yes, they knew about it and had taken care of it. Four or five other people had already told them about it. We’re guessing it won’t happen again soon.

I thought about bears and others and the article that said keep your pets indoors at night.
I bet the little guy was scared. how can people not hear their own dog?
the whole neighborhood heard him! all night!
and then I always think… “neglect?” or other abuse? you just never know.

The area is surrounded by a chain link fence, so the pup was physically safe. And no doubt the fellow’s apartment was far enough away that he didn’t hear the barking. It’s just those of us right next to it that were kept awake. I’m guessing the fellow cared about the pup but was drunk or stoned that night. The pup seemed healthy enough, and it had very good lungs.

I don’t know. The manager didn’t seem to be very upset. She knew who the owner was and took the dog to him. I’m guessing he will be in trouble if it happens again, but there’s no way to tell.
