The article goes on to say the images don’t have to show talent or be well-drawn, they feel more authentic if they aren’t. As I mentioned in Nourishing Our Spirits I do draw one or two simple images for myself every day, and they go straight to my heart. They’re too loaded with my own personal experiences to be useful in a post, but they’re powerful because they’re tailored just for me.
But that isn’t what this post is about. It’s about the Christmas card Andy gave me last year. He usually buys funny cards for Christmas and my birthday, but he looked tickled when he told me he had planned to buy me one then decided to draw me one instead. He wouldn’t show it to me ahead of time, and here it is:
It shows the solar heating panels on the left side of the roof and the Christmas tree on top. No doubt about it, it beats any card he could have bought, and I’m saving in my Flickr account and in my sentimental trove of special letters and pictures. When I think of it I always remember that tickled look on his face and it warms my heart.

This would be my most favorite card of all. The fact that someone takes the time to hand make something always makes it more special. This is a keeper for sure

Oh, I don’t know, I like a glossy shop-bought card myself. A hand-drawn card just makes me think the person is penny-pinching!
It depends on who makes it. The context makes a big difference.
It’s lovely. It reminds me of a poem our daughter wrote at age 8 about our cat. It reflected a reality of our lives at that time. We still have that poem. And the memories come flooding back each time we read it. I think Andy’s card will do that for you.
Yes, I have a sentimental file where I save things like this.
