Yesterday we talked about people trying to talk us into buying services we don’t want. Have you ever seen an ad for a product or service that you hadn’t know existed and rushed to buy it? I have.
A few months ago I was looking at the list of applications on my Mac to see if any could be deleted and saw the name VueScan. I didn’t know what it was, so I clicked on it and saw this ad:
Yes! A few years ago Apple changed my operating system and my Canon all-in-one Pixma MS850 would no longer work with my computer. I went to the Canon site and they didn’t have a driver (software) for the new OS, but when I poked around on the internet I found one in Australia. It enabled me to use the printer, but my scanner no longer worked. I had ways of getting around it but was thrilled to see the VueScan ad. It was a reasonable price so I now can scan from this computer, the one I usually use. It wasn’t a big problem, but it still makes me happy that I saw the ad. Thank you, VueScan!
Have you ever had an experience like that?

I can’t say that I have had an experience like that but I’m glad this worked out well for you
Thank you. ๐
is it a serendipity moment? a need. an ad that shows up at the right time.
and a solution! falls into that ‘meant to be’ category! ๐
Not serendipity because I was without the scanner for a couple of years. That’s why I was so happy to see the ad.
I made a mistake purchasing a scanner item that ultimately was developed in France (a couple years later than original shipping date) at a cost slightly more than the offering price. Shipment kept getting delayed and now not to be shipped to me (others?) as supplying only a limited number to a selected few in a particular profession who reportedly, it is hoped, will boost demand and sales so can ship to the rest of us. First and last venture of this sort for me. Not sure how this will conclude or when.
That sucks. ๐ Good luck.
We buy most of our stuff from Amazon or other companies that stand behind their products. I bought a leather purse locally once and the strap broke soon afterwards. I took it back to return it but the co-owner told me to go to the local shoe repair place and have it fixed, they would pay for it. When it happened again the co-owner washed her hands of it and said that’s what I should expect from buying a “cheap” purse. It had been expensive but had a design flaw and she wouldn’t stand behind the merchandise she sold. From then on I stopped buying from people like her. An expensive lesson and it stuck.
I probably have been wooed by an “ad” but not in recent months or maybe even years. I might however research online for something that I believe I need but not just take it at face value for said purchase….
Again, in this case it was something I had wanted because it made my scanner useful again. I had missed it.
That was a great find. We are worried about a lot of the apps on our Macbook Pro because we keep getting messages that our newest Mac platform doesn’t support them:( We keep hoping they will catch up with Mac.
Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber
We get those messages too. One of my favorite apps on my iPad stopped working a long time ago and I still miss it. ๐ I even once wrote a post about how much I loved it.
I canโt saw that Iโve โrushedโ when purchasing anything from an ad.
Iโm quite the opposite.
I research everything to death.
In this case I had a need for it and hadn’t known it existed. I did look up reviews on the internet.
