One Week Later

What a difference a week makes. Last Friday after Silver Sneakers I climbed 40 flights of stairs on the stair stepper at the Y, did 5 to 10 minutes on the treadmill, and then used the weight machines for a bit. I felt great.

Saturday I got hit by the beginning of this cough/cold and started dragging around, and Sunday it essentially flattened me — I spent a good part of the day dozing on the couch or in the reclining chair. I’ve regained a lot of energy since then but still avoided Silver Sneakers today because I don’t want to contaminate anyone, am still taking it somewhat easy, and still have coughing fits from time to time.

I am taking advantage of the time to do some housework and to clean out some drawers and closets. It reminds me of New Year’s Day, when we had no electricity except from the extension cord from the apartment below. Kaitlin and Torben and the pups were here for a couple of hours — arriving late because of their struggles driving in the snowstorm and its aftermath — and Kaitlin and I went to the store to buy some salads and sandwiches since we couldn’t cook. Then they left for the motel with their food around 3:30 or so because they wanted to get there before dark in case they had to shovel out a parking spot.

Andy and I ate our dinner soon afterwards, while it was still light. He figured it was all right to plug an 8-watt led bulb into one of our lamps and run if off the extension cord, so he sat there in the somewhat dim light until it was time to go to bed. I had enough games on my iPads to keep me amused, but decided that wouldn’t make me very happy, so I ended up cleaning the kitchen floor, etc, by flashlight. If it’s not going to be fun I might as well accomplish something I would appreciate later.

It turned out to be a good idea, hence my motivation now. I’m actually tackling a drawer I’ve been putting off for years, so I will probably fondly look back on this time too. (But I won’t miss the coughing fits! 😀 )

holy cow Monk! just the difference in truly lazy people and YOU!
I would leave that drawer til it called out to me! I use ‘down time’ as in sick… just to stop and rest! just drinking plenty of liquids is always a chore for me!
but I know what you mean. if I have the energy the first thing I do is look for stuff I can organize and/or get rid of! it’s very satisfying! and fun!
I hope you feel better SOON. be careful! the heart can be strained too much as much as all our other muscles. XOXO

You forget the days I spent in bed watching Frasier when I had shingles in my eye a few years ago. I have no problem sitting or lying down resting when it feels right. But now I’m at the stage where I need to start moving around. I can easily ignore housework when I feel great, but now it lifts my spirits to get some of it done.

Don’t worry about me being careful. When I was using the stair stepper I stopped once in a while to check that my heartbeat wasn’t too high. I felt fine afterwards but wanted to make sure.

Well, if you think you’ll fondly look back on this time, I suppose that’s what you need to be doing. But I think I’d rather read that you’re wrapped up all toasty and sipping tea and honey.
Although I do get it. If I feel unwell in the summer, I like to go out in the yard and work on the flowers and things.

I too would say what a difference a week makes.
A lot has been going on. I’ve been very stressed and unable to stop crying.
It’s mostly work related of course but also the deaths of my cat, dog, and then my all-time favorite boarding dog and now it looks as though Kanga my cat has cancer…. yep, I haven’t been very upbeat and I’ve been letting the world beat me down… BUT, I got a puppy! Not a rescue but someone I’ve been waiting for! I’ve turned down several puppies from different litters but when this one was born, I knew she was the one!
Her name is Birdie and that little girl has pulled me out of my downward spiral.
Such a big task for such a tiny thing.
Here’s a link to her picture!

Other than that, not too much happening!
    Lol! 😉

Sorry to hear about the cold. Everyone I know who’s had one recently has said that they really seem to hang on. I still have a few remaining signs of mine. Glad you’re feeling better than last week.

There are way too many drawers here that could use some cleaning out and organizing. But maybe Mom could do one at a time:) We hope your cold get better soon.

  5. That is one adorable puppy up above.

Cleaning a floor by flash light? How that would be a challenge.

    • Jean says:

It wasn’t so bad. We’re prepared with flashlights that put out a lot of light. They stand on end and bounce light off the ceiling so the room is lit enough to see, at least enough.
