We humans tend to think we’re so smart, much superior to “dumb animals.” I don’t buy that. I cheerfully admit Tempi is sometimes smarter than I am. For instance the time Kaitlin said Zoe was on the couch barking at something outside. Zoe was blocking Tempi’s view, but instead of Tempi jumping on the couch to see too, she looked at the picture on the wall facing the window. The picture had glass in front of it, and Tempi could see from the reflection what was happening outside.
I cheerfully admit I would never had thought to do that.
She also outfoxed the Bark Busters hired by Kaitlin and Torben in the first few months to stop unwanted behaviors. Their idea was to get Tempi to do the behaviors then squirt her in the face with water. How unfriendly was that?!! Anyway, Tempi decided not to play along. When they came she would just curl up and not do anything until they left.
As Tempi wrote in this post, even when Torben got out the drop cloth and flapped it, something that usually set her off, she ignored it. She was not about to be manipulated.
The Bark Busters then tried to pretend they had left and Tempi was about to resume her life, when she stopped and looked at the backpack they had left behind. Yeah, sure they were gone. You have to be a lot smarter than that to fool her!
As I recall Kaitlin once said the next pup they got was going to be “as dumb as a post.”

This is just too funny…but I am not surprised at all. You can seem their mind turning sometimes.
That’s one reason they’re so much fun.
LOL!!! she’s a delight.
it seems I remember dvds being selectively devoured?
and no amount of AI could ever win!
Pups with active minds have to keep themselves amused. 🙂
Ha!
🙂
Wow, she is brilliant!! I agree. Also, animals seem to have better instincts than us at times. I loved these stories!
🙂
See, we told you yesterday Tempi was smart, and this post just proves it. Great stories.
Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber
🙂
Oh m’gosh… she’s a wonder! Like Tempi, I’d have little or no use for those Bark Busters.
They weren’t very nice at all! Good for Tempi.
I wish all “dogs” were like that!
The downside is their active minds can get into a lot of mischief. 😀
a good many hu-mans with active minds can get into “mischief” as well…
At the risk of repeating myself, Tempi is one smart girl. What a character. I never would have thought to look at the picture on the wall either.
I find that amazing too. 🙂
“dumb as a post”…good luck with THAT!
Kaitlin says she forgot that when they got Zoe, they should have looked for a dumb, lazy dog. They would have missed a lot of fun.
I can’t stop smiling, just seeing her in that chair got the grin going and as i read it turned to laughter. she is one smart pup… we have notices, with our five dogs in 35 years that 2 were a lot smarter than the others. Big is by far the smartest we have had, the thing is he is such a good boy there is nothing to vent about… Max, the first dog, was smart as a whip, but did go through chewing bad habits and did not like other dogs or people. thanks for the uplifting smiles
I would love to hear more about Big, it doesn’t have to be about mischief. You clearly love him dearly.
I am now following your grand dogs, read through some of the posts, they are so sweet. the dogs, not the posts ha ha…
😀
Dogs are so smart. It’s what makes them fun and exasperating to live with.
Yes. 🙂
Looked at the reflection, in the mirror!!!!!!! Amazing!!!!!
I have been saying, _some_ dogs certainly can think.
Love these tales!!!!!!
Did Blogger finally do it?????
That still amazes me. 🙂
Tempi is one smart dog, indeed! I would not have thought to use the reflection in the picture either.
I was playing a computer game yesterday where a dog was guarding a door. When the player gave the dog his master’s hat to chew on, the guarding action went away. 🙂
😀
Looking at the reflection in the glass was very smart. I doubt if I would have thought of that myself!
That story still tickles me.
