Change of Plans

Because of the strain on hospitals and health care providers, our governor has issued state-wide restrictions for two weeks starting Monday:

New Mexicans are instructed to stay at home except for only those trips that are essential to health, safety and welfare – such as for food and water, emergency medical care, to obtain a flu shot or to obtain a test for COVID-19.

Essential businesses – such as grocery stores, pharmacies, shelters, child care facilities, gas stations, infrastructure operations and others – must minimize operations and in-person staffing to the greatest extent possible but may remain open for limited essential in-person activities.

When we shopping last night most of the fresh fruit and vegetable bins were completely empty, as were the frozen-vegetable shelves. Presumably people were stocking up…we’ll have to see what it’s like when we go again.

And presumably Andy’s physical therapy treatments will be canceled for at least two weeks. We’re happy that he was able to have the first one and has exercises to work on…it’s those exercises that are the most important. Fingers crossed for everyone.

Be safe!

  1. yes “be safe”

so that also means, I guess, no daily trips to the land OR will that be allowed say once a week to keep a check on things…

I know you are happy at home but will Andy be happy 🙂

take care, I know you can do it!

  2. Linda Sand says:

Yes, good he learned what exercises to do before this newest shutdown. I am, once again, being glad for being an introvert..

    • Jean says:

Me too! Actually I’m on the borderline between Introvert and Extravert (Jung’s spelling). My Extravert gets fed by blogging and phone calls.

  3. Hootin' Anni says:

I smiled at your comment reply about the wildlife keeping up with the social distancing.

Our numbers are going up too. Just stay safe & hope your staples such as food & meds, etc. Will be available as you need them.

    • Jean says:

Thanks. I gradually bought some emergency canned food early this year, before people started buying in big lots, so we won’t starve even if supplies are erratic for a while.

  4. Myra G. says:

What a shame she had to step up and be the ‘mean parent.’ Worse, too, for those tasked to enforce.
I wonder if there aren’t fresh open air markets within a reasonable driving distance?

    • Jean says:

Our store isn’t bad. It’s big and they limit the number of people inside at one time. And they have someone at the door making sure everyone wears a mask.

  5. It really sinks your heart to see empty shelves at the supermarket doesn’t it. Stay safe out there!

  6. Mike Goad says:

Our Governor has established a Winter CCOVID-19 task force, mostly made up of hospital administrators, to plan for the pain they see coming. Arkansas never fully opened back up, though most businesses that were not retail or service sector never closed. Many eateries are still doing drive-through and/or curbside pickup as their capacity is severely limited if they open for inside dining. The state mask mandate is toothless when it comes to compliance though a majority do comply. Many, though, flagrantly ingnore the requirements. Instead of flattening, our cumulative cases curve is getting steeper as the daily case counts rise.

  7. Ginny Hartzler says:

Gosh, this is not good. I hope people don’t start hoarding important items. Well, at least your local government is doing something positive to manage the virus, hopefully this will really bring the cases down and help the hospitals.

  8. nick says:

Surprisingly I’ve seen no evidence of stockpiling during our current NI lockdown. Plenty of everything on the shelves. Big contrast to the first lockdown in March when shelves were being stripped of numerous essentials as if a swarm of locusts had descended.

  9. MadSnapper says:

sorry to hear this, I hope the two weeks will help and you can open up again. glad you have the land to go visit and get excercise.. ha ha on the animals social distancing, I hope so.

    • Jean says:

I get a lot of exercise here in the apartment every day…I do them while I stream videos. That wouldn’t work for Andy, at the moment, at least, he needs the land.

  10. Joared says:

Do be safe yourselves. Circumstances here in Southern California are becoming increasingly iffier. Glad Andy has some P.T. exercises he can continue doing as I do, too. Am wondering if P.T. telemed could be beneficial in Andy’s situation?

    • Jean says:

As far as I know they don’t offer it, but he will continue the exercises. He can find others to add to them on the internet if he wants, but I’m guessing he won’t. That’s more my style than his.

  11. People aren’t paying attention…

Like the 7 hour BLM “protest” last weekend, in our city. Which closed down center of the city.

No one was doing anything about COVID-19 Rules, at that.

But the County Health Dept. was calling we old people, to get our temperatures.

And they sent a Police Officer to our door! To make sure we were at home!!!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the different way, different people, are being treated, now.

  12. The OP Pack says:

Best to stay safe and stay home. Around here the aisles are all bare for toilet paper and paper towels despite the news saying supplies are good. I try to avoid the stores on weekends but it will be interesting to see what stock is like midweek.

Very sad here about the holidays without family, but everyone in the family agrees it is what has to be:(

  13. Rose Swalls says:

A lot of the schools near us have been going to remote learning for short spells. So far Lorelei hasnt… she loves school.so much. But I do hope they will if it is needed.

  14. Ann Thompson says:

The worst part about things like this is that people start hoarding making it difficult for others to find the things they need.
Glad Andy was able to get the exercises he needs to do so he can do them at home.

    • Jean says:

In fact, the store was more like normal with regards to items tonight, and Andy will have his appointment tomorrow. Apparently PT is regarded as an essential service. I’ll let you know how that goes.

  15. The numbers are not on the rise here in Virginia, at least not right now, but we’re all still worried about it. I find myself wanting to “stock up” just in case, but I know that I have stored plenty of staples over the last several months when they were on sale, and some of it, I forgot that I had. I just wish I could find those Clorox wipes that I’ve always been so fond of! 🙂

    • Jean says:

I gave up on hand sanitizers and wipes last March, so I haven’t checked here. That’s interesting that they weren’t available once things let up for a while.
