Yesterday the wind down here was about 18 mph, with gusts over 40 mph. When Andy sent his email saying he was leaving he added “windy”. He was leaving earlier than usual and was telling me he might be delayed by trees on the road. There was only one, unlike the first years after the fire when there would be a slew of them blocking the road after heavy winds. Almost ten years makes a big difference.

Weather patterns are sometimes a factor in getting home on a time table. What kind of trees do you have that may blow down with 40 MPH?
Trees killed in the 2011 fire. These are pictures Andy took of them burning as he headed for home: https://www.flickr.com/photos/cheerfulmonk/albums/72157627127902816
Ahhh, okay. Now I understand completely.
40 mph gusts… the kind where it can blow the food right off your plate!
I’m glad he only had the one tree to contend with this time. π XO
I’m glad too! Ten years has made a big difference with him too.
Yikes! We are having high winds as well.
It’s nice to be inside when it blows.
oh I love tammy’s reply – must remember never to have a picnic with a plate of food on a windy day π
not windy here all that much at the moment – but lots of rain. Forecasters keep getting it wrong. And my washing is still on the clothesline – but I keep extracting a few things to for the porch…which in turn dry and come inside (repeat actions)
Andy checks the weather every night, I don’t pay much attention to the forecasts unless I have something planned. It sounds as if your clothes eventually get dried. π
It was windy here, too.
It’s that time of year. π
We had high winds predicted several days ago. We didn’t get them on the day they said but they did arrive a couple days later. Glad to hear he only had one tree to contend with
Yes, that was nice.
our weather just ended now and HIGH gusty winds was the last thing he said, coming in mid afternoon and bringing a cold front with it. seems the winds will take us from the 90’s temps to the 40’s. IN Floriida.. I looke at the fire pics, so horrible and am glad there was only one tree. tell us what he does when he comes to a downed tree. please.
He has three chain saws and never goes up without one in the car. When we go up for a picnic he always takes a saw out of the Jeep and puts in the 4Runner we drive up in. This post shows some of the trees he cleared one day a few years ago, and it shows one of the saws.

Here’s a picture of saws:
Oh, that fire must have been so heartbreaking. It was windy here, too. But I dont know the mph.
Yes, even though we knew it could happen it was still hard.
Those pictures are heartbreaking.
Good to know Andy’s not one to take unnecessary chances up there.
He’s sensible. It’s almost time for him to work on the defensible space around the house, shed, and greenhouse. He used to have three possible roads out, now he has one because the Forest Service closed one and another got wiped out by the flash floods after the fire. If his way out is blocked he will shelter in place.
We had wind yesterday
But today was just a light breeze
Actually a perfect day!
Tomorrow is rain.
Oh well! Rain is good
If itβs not too much.
I’m glad today was perfect at least!
