Hail Storm

NORMAN, Okla. β€”

Severe storms that moved across central Oklahoma Wednesday night caused significant hail damage and flooding issues in some areas.

Many residents in Norman woke up Thursday morning to damaged cars and windows, due to baseball-sized hail stones that hit the area. Sidewalks are littered with glass and some car dealerships are dealing with damaged vehicles as well.
….
The hail storm is estimated to have caused hundreds of millions of dollars in damage to the community and could be one of the costliest storms in Oklahoma history.

Here’s a video of it coming down:

The size of the hail would have been bad enough, but it was even worse when there were fierce winds. Here’s a video of windows smashed.

tammy lives in Norman and she lost her bedroom window and the rear window of her car, which meant broken glass everywhere. It must have been terrifying. Stay safe, tammy!

Storms…of all kinds these days, are getting more damaging as the years go by. Glass can be replaced, lives can’t
    Yes!! Be strong, be safe.

    • Jean says:

At least be safe! I think it’s appropriate to feel scared and vulnerable at times. For me the main thing is to be resilient.

  2. Ginny Hartzler says:

Goodness, it looks like there was a riot there! I hope nobody was hurt.

    • Jean says:

Apparently, from one news source, only minor injuries. It could have been a lot worse, but it must have been scary enough as it was.

  3. agree with Ginny, looks like a riot – even attacking the garage walls of one place – and then the randomness of one side of Taco ?bell store windows (boarded up)

Yes tammy stay safe, and be careful where you tread with busted windows you have suffered, I guess the Marine came over and helped you out…

  4. MadSnapper says:

this sad and scary and the fact it is the costliest storm in OK history is even worse because it effects not only OK but all of us. insurance rates are effected by all damage. i hope no one was hurt physically. those size hail could kill a person

  5. Ann Thompson says:

Wow, those are huge hail stones. I was out yesterday after work and it hailed for a few seconds but they were very small. I wouldn’t have wanted to be out when this was going on. I can’t imagine how scary that would be if you were driving down the road and this storm hit.

  6. Myra Guca says:

I never really took hail storms lightly until recently. This video and the resulting damage looks like what hit our coastal cities just a couple weeks ago. Sending good thoughts to Tammy!

  7. I saw this on the news and thought of our longtime friend Tammy right away – I’m glad she’s okay, but sorry she’s a little worse for wear! We’ve lost power at our house. For nearly 24 hours, and it’s still off. I’m at work recharging our “devices” in case it’s another long/quiet night.

Ih, I feel so for Tammy! I hope things will be repaired in a timely manner.

  9. Linda Sand says:

Scary, scary, scary. I’m glad Tammy is doing so well in the aftermath of this.

    just now getting on here.
we’re still in clean up mode so to speak.
thanks to everyone who left kind and understanding comments!
I worried so about the wildlife and other animals with no shelter.
    even PEOPLE!!!!
we have several groups here of people who seem to prefer living in makeshift tents and such in the woods down by the river. they’ve been approached and have said they would rather have their own life than be in a shelter.
I wondered about them that night!
it came on So fast. we always have great warnings about the tornadoes! this one hit BAM! I can’t imagine what it must have been like to be driving in a CAR!
it was going right through the windshields. I’m amazed there weren’t more injuries.
strange. in the video they look small to me but they were the size of my fist or bigger! at least that’s the size of the dents of those left on my car.
another adventure in this life we live. one I don’t care to repeat. xoxo

    • Jean says:

We too hope you never have to repeat it! The video of it coming down didn’t do it justice because as you say, the hail in the video wasn’t big enough and also the wind wasn’t blowing. If it had been they would have closed the door and hunkered down.

Our son lives in Keller, TX and they had that baseball sized hail there too. He and daughter-in-law were in their tornado shelter they had built in their garage because there were tornado sightings nearby. Our grandson was at a SAT prep class with his brand new car. He was very wise and moved it under a gas station canopy. They were texting back and forth with us the whole time, and they were very scared. Luckily no damage and everyone was safe.

Thank you for sharing these videos!
It’s just totally unbelievable that the hail was that big.
It’s like the weather is getting more extreme everywhere!
I am so glad that Tammy is safe But I hate that she lives in Oklahoma.
Every year I worry about the tornadoes and now she’s dealing with hail the size of baseballs!!!
I can’t imagine anyone being out in that and as Tammy stated what about people driving or the homeless and of course all the animals.
That is going to take a very long time to recover from for sure.

Goodness, that sounds like an awful storm. Hailstones the size of baseballs! As Ann says, it must have been really scary if you were out driving at the time. Glad to know Tammy is okay.
