It was really windy Saturday when we went up to the land. I went into the house first and saw these little black pieces being blown across the floor.
I quickly closed the door and when Andy came in I asked him about them. He said,
I swept those up!
The pieces were obviously new. He said they were from the bottom of the rocking chair. The chair is about 25 years old and the bottom was well protected, but there it was.
The wind had clearly blown more pieces off.
The top of the chair doesn’t look that bad.
But as we know, people and things age at different rates. It is what it is. Enjoy what we have while we still have it.

Yes, it’s teak. It goes with our dining room set…the tops of those chairs look quite a bit more worn. But who are we to judge. 😀
We also have a sideboard in the living room and a dresser of teak. We wanted to buy more pieces, but suddenly it wasn’t available. We’re grateful we have what we have.

I’d have looked everywhere, never realizing where those spots came from.
But yes; the top looks good!
Fortunately Andy solved the mystery for me. 🙂

It is. Andy uses it every day he’s up there.
can you take it to a repairer and have a new cloth/bottom layer put on – and maybe at the same time get it re-oiled and give a bigger chance to survive?
No, it’s fine just the way it is.. the cloth was only cosmetic. The chair will outlast us. 🙂
We love that rocker – the teak is beautiful. We bet you could put a new piece on that bottom and it would be good to go for many more years:)

I like it, and are you sure wind did that? how does it get inside, myabe it is a mouse? good thing is it is hidden from sight and the chair is still usuable… also true different things last different times..
It was the wind…it blew through the front door when I came in. It also blew a couple of things off the counter, so I closed it. I had left it open for Andy because he was coming right in.
I’m having the same problem – I could stand a new bottom!

I love that rocking chair! It matches our previous furniture as well. I miss all our teak furniture we sold when we moved into an RV but we are not spending that kind of money for new furniture at our age since our only child has already furnished her home and we don’t have grandkids to inherit it.
Around here it stopped being available about 20 years ago, but we’re like you…our priorities are elsewhere now.
