This is my first post from the new machine. I still have to pull more files over and install a few more programs, but I seem to be in business again.
When Andy was driving out of the parking lot this morning he had to wait for two deer to pass in front of him. They were joining a third deer standing by the side of the four-lane road. Then all three watched the traffic, presumably waiting for a safe time to cross.
Our local paper often has pictures of deer lounging in yards, trimming bushes, etc. Andy has read that the deer in Yosemite congregate in the valley where the people are. It’s safer for them because the deer don’t mind people and mountain lions do.
Several neighbors up by our land have trail cameras that have seen mountain lions. Some of the neighbors warned us but another says he hasn’t picked up mountain lions on his camera for about a month, just about the time when he stopped seeing deer. That makes sense, because the deer that used to reside by the house haven’t been seen for quite a while.
Stay safe and have fun.

I would much rather spot a deer than a mountain lion. Then again I wouldn’t mind seeing a mountain lion if it was from a safe distance and he couldn’t see me.
I only saw a mountain lion once. I was driving in Montana and it crossed the road right in front of me. I stopped for it, of course. 🙂
That was years ago but I still remember it.
My sister in the Colorado mountains sees all these, plus bobcats on her land. Some saunter thru he back yard, by her deck!!
That’s neat. Andy has seen bobcats, but no lions yet. Thank goodness.
There’s deer all around my town. Sometimes they are in my backyard down in the ravine part but they’ve been in my front yard at night when the ground was covered with apples from my tree! Thankfully no mountain lions, although last year, on the edge of town where the state park is, a man had a cougar come into his enclosed pool area!
A few years ago a fellow let his dog out into the yard at night and there was big commotion. It turned out a mountain lion was attacking the dog but ran away when the man got involved. Scary stuff!
We used to see a lot of deer pass through the trail behind our house, but not so much lately. We have seen coyotes and foxes, but no mountain lions, thankfully.
Yes, thankfully!
The mountin lions must have killed the deer. A mountin lion can drag a full grown deer and hide it’s body.
That’s what we figured.
Oh MY Oh MY
but you all probably know that would come from ME. None of those things would even be in the city – maybe the odd deer that jumped the fence in a deer farm, and probably in the forests way out of town – but NOT roaming around my back yard.
NOR anything remotely like a LION unless it escaped from a fortified commercial enclosure (zoo) or (wild animal park)
Yes, your deer and mountain lions would have to be imported.
I have never seen a deer or a mountain lion in the wild. I would love to see the deer but not the lions. lion viewing would be nice from a car, but then when I got out of the car I would be in their eviroment… you have the best of both worlds
As I told Ginny above, the only mountain lion I ever saw crossed the road in front of my when I was driving in Montana years ago. It was neat and completely safe.
I guess I would always be watching! It would really be exciting to see a mountain lion.
Hopefully from a safe distance!
I’ve a h/s chum who feeds a group of deer near their front door — but have never heard tale of a mountain lion in the town site. How I wish my father was still alive, to ask if he ever saw one while on patrol!
As I told Cindi, a man encountered one in his backyard a couple of years ago. It was attacking the man’s dog.
