Andy brought these two melons (Hale’s Best jumbo heirloom cantaloupe) home last night. He thought it was time to harvest since it’s almost December and time to start planting cold weather crops. The largest one is about 6 inches long. I cut them before I took the picture because they’re supposed to be cantaloupe and were so green I expected them to be too under ripe to eat. In fact they tasted fine.
Reading the description in the catalogue they’re supposed to get to be 3 to 5 pounds and are elongated. Most of the pictures show rounded ends, but this one from Walmart bears a resemblance to ours.
If we try them again we should plant them in the spring, and maybe not try for the jumbo variety? In the fullness of time we will let you know.

I love these melons! The color looks perfect. Juicy?!
They would have been juicier if they had been riper, but they were amazingly tasty as it was.
They look delicious. I love cantaloupe.
I do too. Cantaloupe and watermelon.
Well they do look yummy!
Yes. 🙂
They look ripe and juicy and delicious to me!!!
We were pleasantly surprised.
we both love canoloupe and when in season buy 2 at a time per week. I like to cut in cubes and store in container in fridge and that is our snacks. we have never seen any like this, but they look delish… the good news is it is on my low fodmap diet.. yippee. no side effects from the booster shot. 16 hours and counting.. yay
That’s great about the booster shot, and that cantaloupes are okay when you’re on the fodmap diet. It’s so important to be able to eat some things that you love. 🙂
They look delicious! I would like to have a good one right now.
I love cantaloupe too. 🙂
My mother adored her cantaloupe – usually with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the center. Gotta say, it’s (flesh) is some of the prettiest I’ve seen — pity I don’t like fruit.
That’s too bad. I love fruit and probably don’t eat enough protein.
You’re look absolutely perfect. Remember to really scrub the outsides before cutting into them. Cantaloupe are notorious for harboring germs in those deep groves that can make you sick when the knife transfers them to the fruit.
Thanks for the warning. I have read that but usually forget. I need to work on it.
