Sandra has mentioned picking out the colors for repainting their house.
When we were building our house up in the mountains we spent a long time deciding on the color scheme. We decided on the light stone for the main color, terracotta for the trim on the windows and doors, and the two darker colors for the rest of the trim:
We loved it, but somehow ended up with this:
I have no idea how the light stone turned into the reddish brown, but it was what it was. I figure picking paint colors is like what we’ve said about our hair…it’s to remind us how little control we have in life.

I totally agree. Well, it still looks very good, so the difference did not make a bad change. We even paint part of a wall with my color of choice, yet when it is ALL done, it STILL looks different! Seems you can just never tell.

ummmm you spend months sorting out the replacement cabin – I remember the plans and ideas…obviously something didn’t translate on the colours!
for my new bookmaking course, I think I showed you something that I initially made – well it may not work! Will trial it this coming week, but I may have to “start again” – it won’t get wasted and that okay. But it’s not terribly VIP
Unfortunately do overs are part of the process. I used to hate it when I was doing great things with knitting then noticed a dropped stitch close to the beginning. Rip it out and do it again. 🙁
Well at least what you ended up with looked really nice. I always have such a hard time deciding on colors.

the finished house looks really nice, but not much like the color swatches. we took a week to decide, i ran in and out for days holding up colors. making him look. it is nothing like i pictured in my mind, but can and will live with it… that is why we stayed with the off white color for the house. just in case we painted the trim something I could not stand. easy fix to do 4 shutters and a door, bob said it wasn’t easy for him. 3 hours with a paint brush…
I once paid a fortune for a very large sofa. one that comes in 3 pieces and bends around the corner. we both loved it in the store. it was delivered while I was at work. I came home and came in the door and burst into tears.
I had measured and measured to make sure it fit the room and it was a perfect fit, but I neglected the HEIGHT of the sofa. Our ceilings are 8 foot, the sofa was 5 feet and went 3/4 up the wall making the big room look terrbble. even bob did not like it. they refused to take it back. the one they had in the store bent to the right, we needed bend to left and they had to bring it from the warehouse. they said it was a special order and no returns. I have badmouthed that Lazy boy store for 17 years now.. She had the nerve to tell me to decorate around it to make it looks smaller. that is how we ended up with a rug on top of the carpet, and photos in a long narrow strip….I stood it for 3 years and we bought the leather sofas and gave it to my son and his wife. a year later they moved to TN and gave it to a friend.
We had a similar situation with a sofa. We agonized over what to get and picked just the right one. A beautiful brown that would look so nice with our living room walls. It was delivered and was purple! I was so upset and ran and grabbed the sample swatch. Yup. Purple with our living room walls, brown with ivory walls. We ended up finding a wall color that made it less purple…. But such a learning experience!
Decisions like that are hard, there are so many variables. I do remember Kaitlin’s story about the sofa. What a mess!

it’s interesting to me that as I get older…. I find making Any decision seems stressful. what’s up with that? is everyone like that? I guess perhaps it’s because everything is so expensive now that I’m afraid of wasting money.
I’ve only noticed this in myself within the last few years. thank goodness I haven’t always been this way! 😀 xo

Paint chips can be so darn confusing. When stumped between several similar shades, Tom’s son/wife bought small paint samples — one in each shade. She made 4 different wide brush strokes, side-by-side on an interior wall. They studied how each appeared at different times of day before arriving at a decision. I thought that was brilliant!
That was smart…the light makes a huge difference. As do the other colors in the room.
