We naively assumed being in the burn scar of the 2011 fire was an advantage. Nope. Firefighters can’t go in there because of all the downed and standing dead trees. Too dangerous. And those piles of bone-dry dead trees on the ground were great fuel for the fire.
In the pictures below the marker indicates where our house is.
We don’t know how well our defensible space worked…we’ll have to see. The Bristers, our full-time neighbors, have a camcorder showing Beate and Tim’s summer place burning. That’s heartbreaking. They’ve been great neighbors for years and years.

Heartbreaking for your neighbors indeed. I think of your place and the greenhouse — do hope by some miracle it survives and your defensible space worked.
Thank you.
oh NO!
I was hoping Tim and Beate’s house would be saved.
we had blessed RAIN this morning. not for long but at least finally Some!
I was wishing it could have fallen on you. XOXO
I was hoping that too. Enjoy your rain, you need it too!
I’m so sorry you have to go through this stress and waiting!
Thanks. š
Oh my, that is heartbreaking. This can’t be an easy time right now.
We’re amainly relaxed about it, but we’re sad for Beate and Tim.
Oh NO!!!!!!!
This is such horrible heartbreaking news!
Poor Tim and Beate, losing their home.
Just such sad sad news.
Iām praying that your place will survive and
that the defensible space will save it.
Truly, my heart goes out to you and Andy
And all those being affected.
xoxo
Thank you. Beate and Tim were about to come for the summer. They’re great neighbors. š
I still have no words … special thoughts from me to you and your kin/friends
Thank you.
I am so sad to hear about this…
Thank you.
I am praying now for your safety. I just saw on ABC news that they are evacuating what I think is your town. Please let us know how you are if only one word. they showed the raging fire. My heart hurts with your heart
That was another fire, they’re trying to keep this one from making us evacuate.
This is so heartbreaking. You may accept the inevitable, but, I’d be in tears!!
We’ll have to see… with the drought this is probably the new normal.
Heartbreaking. You and Andy are in our thoughts and prayers.
Thank you.
So sorry! At least you weren’t living there full time though I’m guessing that fact doesn’t dull the pain.
It makes a big difference!
It hurts so to loose such a special place. I’m crying for your neighbors while hoping Andy’s defensive space worked for you.
Thank you.
