who likes it up there in winter. The big bare patches are where the deer (?) bedded down at night. The warmth of their bodies melted the snow.
Andy says he wouldn’t like to be an animal up there. He likes his warm house and clothing.

no laying down in snow for me, but I assume the deer don’t mind. Beau might be part deer, since wherever he lays, it is hot when he gets up. the carpet, sofa, doesn’t matter, he leaves a hot spot that could melt snow
That must be hard for him in the summer? I wilt in the heat.
I’m with Andy. Give me a nice warm house. I’ve always felt bad for animals that live outdoors, especially in the winter when it’s freezing. I know they are used to it but still, it can’t be easy.
I know. Just because they survive doesn’t mean it’s not miserable.
I had no idea! Crossing my fingers deer hunters aren’t allowed up there.
Not on our land, but there is hunting in the fall. We saw a lot of hunters camping out when we drove back and forth when Kaitlin and Torben were here in October.
That was a big herd bedding down up there. They must like the view as much as you guys do.
They probably feel safe because they can see predators.
Good grief! I would think they would go to sleep by some kind of shelter or camoflauge, like beside trees.
All the conifers burned in 2011, and the aspens lose their leaves and wouldn’t be much shelter. Also mountain lions like trees, so there deer are probably safer out in the open.
Deer are designed for outdoor living; modern day humans are not.
I get frustrated by people who shave their dogs in the summer. Don’t they know fur insulates from heat as well as cold? Instead the subject their dogs to sunburn. Aargh!
That’s too bad. 🙁
I have deer in my backyard.
The bottom slopes down and has grown wild.
In the mornings when I first let the dogs out, my little poodle, Enzo has a barking fit at them. But my Jimmy just stares at them. I usually call the dogs back in and the deer stay then.
I also have a fox, bigger than Enzo, who has a den about 6 feet from the edge of my dog area. In the front of my house I have 2 cat houses. I haven’t seen any ferals this year yet but someone is eating the cat food that I put out there.
I’m blessed to have a warm home!

Right now if I had to be outside, I would be under some type of shelter and away from the tail end of Cyclone Hale which is giving us some high tech breezes. Not terribly stormy in my ‘hood but as I said in last blog post of Jeans – it’s a fickle little region I live in.
try to remember that the whole of New Zealand with it many offshore islands all fit into Colorado State and we are not surrounded by other territories but actually oceans!
I know… everything is so close to the ocean. I hope you get some good weather soon!
I am with Andy on this one. Give me a bed and some cozy blankets any day. Not even sure the double coated Siberians here would like to sleep out overnight even though they DO love the snow. They are so spoiled:)

I sometimes wonder how the critters do outside when it’s so very, very cold. Burrr.
