not in New York City. I just read an article saying now that recreational use of marijuana has been legalized, you smell it everywhere in their public areas. I also read a blog post saying sometimes people can’t even escape it in their own apartment if their neighbors are chain smokers. I don’t know what marijuana smells like, but I’ve always been sensitive to cigarette smoke, and I’m guessing I would do no better with marijuana.
Anyway, that hasn’t been a problem here, instead we have a lot of deer roaming around town, which means there are also coyotes and mountain lions even if they keep mostly out of sight. An article in a local paper last week warned pet owners not to let their dogs out alone in their backyard after the sun went down. That’s when mountain lions hunt, and fences don’t stop them. So if you let your pup out, go with it and turn on lights and make a lot of noise because the lions try to avoid humans.
The same paper also told us the bears are out of hibernation now and published this picture.
The bear ran off as soon as it saw humans watching it from a window.
Our town may be small, but it’s not boring.

Wade had a friend who would come over and would smoke marijuana in the basement. I do not like the smell of it at all and you could smell it through the whole house. I used to get so mad.
Someone did spot a bear not too far from me just last week.
I would get angry too if someone invaded my home with smelly smoke!
the bears are out here too. a few days ago they had one seen in neighborhoods and were showing us photos, then the next morning they told us the sad news it had been hit by a car and died. Pot smells sweet, we have a neighbor who smokes it on the back porch and that is how I know what it smells like. smoke kicks my allergies on high and makes my eyes red and burning. what you describe to do for lions is what I do before going out to make sure the raccoons are gone when i go out with Beau. We heard the Owl this morning
That’s sad about the poor bear. 🙁 Good for you for being careful with Beau and the animals.
It would be scary to be a pet owner to a small breed dog, which I understand aren’t that common out your way because of the wildlife.
I’ve heard stories of coyotes following a person walking a dog a dusk. Even when the person picked the pup up and carried it, the coyote followed them.
Yes, I’ve smelled marijuana and find it nauseating.
I don’t think we have bears around, but plenty of coyotes and wildcats. This ‘helicopter mom’ never lets our pups out by themselves.
Good for you! It’s a wise thing to do.
Aways interesting nature!!! Like you are in your own nature documentary.
