Planning Ahead

Is the Fourth of July noisy where you are? (In New Zealand it would be Guy Fawkes Day, Catherine?) It used to be here but luckily that seems to be a thing of the past. I feel sorry for pups who are tormented by the noise.

I’m glad there’s more attention (given) to the effects of fireworks on small animals. I can’t remember where, but I saw something on FB where volunteers go sit with shelter animals to engage and calm.

Sure, they’re a few around here who shoot off bottle rockets and the like, but it never lasts long. Not like in south Phoenix where people go out firing their shotguns.

So they have any casualties with the guns? A boy I knew in grammar school was killed in his back yard on New Year’s when the boy next door shot a gun into the air in his back yard. That was heartbreaking and I never forgot it.

We can see 3 sets of public fireworks displays from our windows but they are far away. No local stuff happening.

We have friends who bought thunder shirts for their animals to wear during fireworks. They say they help.

the locals drive us crazy on every holiday possible, not only do they do fireworks and firecrackers, they don’t just do it once, they do them 3 days before and the week after and on the actual day all day off and on.

I do have a neighbor who likes to set of fireworks for just about any holiday. It’s usually when I’m already in bed and have to get up the next morning for work.
Gibbs has never been bothered by them but the other day the neighbor set off a couple and before I knew it Gibbs was laying on the couch right next to me.

I’m glad you were there for him. Not very considerate neighbors, especially when you have to get up so early. 🙁

  5. yes our main fire works event is Guy Fawkes – but then again that’s in spring – after that there is always seem to be continuing fire works. And fireworks sales are limited to a few days – but as is usual, a small % of people buy up large and stock pile…

i hate them, a incident a few decades where “me, my then home, flames” caught up in a neighbours issue. He did put it out, but he blamed me big-time!

Now, I more or less have to get into bed and try and shut it all out…

To answer your question, yes. A 14 year old girl standing in her own back yard was killed by a bullet shot from more than a mile away. A few years later ‘Shannon’s Law’ was enacted. They’ve also technology (way above my pay grade!) to determine where shots are being fired.
