What’s It Like Where You Are?

When I go to the supermarket now there is usually only one cashier line open, and often there is even a line for the self-serve stations.

  1. I’ve not been in the regular larger supermarkets for ages but I think there is a mixture of the same number of service….

the small neighbourhood one doesn’t have self service

but the ones called Metro are all self service – but I hardly use them, and I always have to have help as I forget the system…usually I’m getting a deli sandwich, some fruit and a drink.

I only know what it is like between 6 and 7 am at Walmart, because I only shop early am… no lines, and almost everyone is using the self check out. I love the self check and was the first to use them when they added them to WM years ago. Now they are really fancy and there are only 2 with cashiers. I have heard about lines, but never seen one. Publix never has a line at either self or cashier. they are so expensive not enough people to line up

In the small city where I live, every store I go to now recently has long lines that snake into the merchandise aisles, including the self service lanes. It looks like when a snowstorm is looming. I don’t have an explanation, though. Are the stores just not bringing in workers? This is grocery stores and also places like Target. It is infuriating.

  4. Ooooh, I detest the self-service check-out. Always afraid the ‘eye in the sky’ is looking down and giggling at my clumsy attempts to find the bar code or produce key.
Aside from Saturday mornings or holidays, I’ve not witnessed much back-up at our usual grocery. Sandra’s right — Publix rarely has a line and their cashiers are so friendly, I (almost) don’t mind paying a little more.

Interesting to see your grocery store, and the people there. What is the name of it? We have a lot of self-checkouts, but usually only one or two regular ones. Lines are usually long.

  6. Pretty much the same. The only self check out I use is at Target because I started using it years ago and I know how it works.

I have no clue. Dave does all our shopping. Am I spoiled or what?

Ah, much the same, I fear, particularly on the first Wednesday of the month. Most everyone fears those senior discount days as “Old Farts’ Wednesdays”.

The Walmart that I shop at had gone down to only 1 cashier but since that one line was always super long they now have 3 or 4 cashiers working. There’s another one that I go to occasionally that doesn’t have any cashiers at all and that one usually has a line for the self checkout.

At Kroger that I go to, there is usually only one cashier and the rest check out…at Walmart there are usually at least two cashiers. I like the cashier because a lot of times I have more than I want to manage at their self service. At the one I used to ho to, they had some self service that had more room and was easy to do a lot.
