Bumbling Along the Best We Can

One of my favorite sayings for years has been,

Doing the best we can with what we have left.

That was especially true yesterday morning. Andy lost his cellphone, probably in some deep snow, last week. So today he went down to the local Verizon store to order another and have them set the new one up for him. After he left here I went into my study to turn on the computer and saw his Garmin there. Oh, oh! I update it in the evening and then put it on the dining room table for Andy to find the next morning.

Today he was thinking about the cellphone so didn’t notice the Garmin wasn’t there. I tried phoning the Verizon store to tell him, but the person I talked to wasn’t at the store. She was just the switchboard and no one in the store answered. OK. so I got in the car and drove down there, hoping he hadn’t left yet. I saw the Jeep, and he getting in it. I drove up behind him to block him in, stopped the car, got out and gave him the Garmin. Perfect timing! Sometimes things work out.

We do want him to have the Garmin so if something happens we know where he is, and in an acute emergency he can push the SOS button. That’s especially important when it gets below freezing at night.

  1. Technology is so helpful these days – if only we can understand how to make it work. Some cell-phones are very complicated.

    God bless.

I am smiling because it all worked out and because we know all about the forgetfulness that comes with aging. that Garmin is truly necessary for his safety. so happy you caught him just in time.. the comment about the store not answering reminded me of last week. I called bob’s primary doc 4 times in 2 days to cancel his appt. I never did get an answer, the last time I called I let it ring and on the 14th ring, I got answering recording. I gave name and dob and said please cancel the appt on Wed at 7:40. they never returned the call. I am waiting to see if they try to charge us the 25 dollar fee if we don’t cancel and appt and don’t show up….the recording said if this is an emergency to to the ER. REALLY?

Wow, what a close call!!! And about his phone…on the bright side, I guess he will now get a newer and fancier model!

No, he wanted something simple. They couldn’t give him the same model but said the new one would still be simple. It’s supposed to get here Friday or Saturday, so I will let you know.

  8. Glad you were able to catch him before he left. Sorry about his phone being lost. Hope everything works out okay.

It might be better to attach it to a necklace, that way it would be impossible to lose. Or you can always contact the local Dept of Corrections to see if they have any of those ankle monitor bracelets on sale.

  10. The new-fangled gadgets can be so very helpful…but we have to remember to have them with us–lol! 😉

We would say you did more than the best you can – good job with that Garmin relocation:)

  13. The Garmin sounds like a really good idea!

I am so absent minded…I try to keep my phone with me but often leave it laying somewhere. I usually miss it pretty quickly. That was perfect timing with the Garmin…
